Just a question - does this forum support more general, social conversations between folks who are on this journey? I am thinking of a Community discussion where we can discuss pretty much anything, always against the backdrop of the massive life change we have made.
For example - I'm in my 60s, female, live in the high desert southwest, married to 2nd husband, have 2 grown kids who live in another state, work in IT for what is a large company in this part of the world. I like reading, watching old movies and British TV shows on Netflix, we have a dog, a cat and a boa constrictor.
I want to learn quilting when I retire, and also to travel. I decided I would not travel until I could sit in a plane seat without being wedged into it. My son had the RNY 5 years ago, and my daughter is heading for it if she does not make some changes very soon.
My biggest challenge is going to be to get the exercise I need. I've always hated exercise, and some minor pulmonary impairment does not make it easy or fun. I have a sedentary job, sedentary habits, and a sedentary inclination.
So who just wants to talk?

I enjoy hunting, fishing and cross stitching. Never been a exercise fanatic but am working on making it part of the everyday routine. The company I work for had decided to have us with from home beginning Sept 15 instead of paying for office space. That will be another transition but am hoping I can work in little work outs during the day.
I am allowed to telecommute 3 days out of 5 and I really love it. Most days I can go with hubby to walk the dog. Sure saves on gasoline, too, although my round trip commute is less than 15 miles. So how did you meet your Englishman? If you tell, I'll tell how I met mine - it's pretty funny.
JJ - Education! wow - good for you! That's not the easiest field out there. There is still so much we don't know about how people learn and remember/forget things. Have you decided on a dissertation topic yet? I'm very impressed.
My research is focused on bringing a group of district and charter leaders together to impact education policy in Arizona.

Went to the store yesterday to try on some blue jeans as mine are getting pretty loose. I am down from a 22W to a 16 regular since March! :) thinking in a few weeks I could probably do a 14. Haven't fit into jeans that size since freshman year in high school.
