I actually cook more now and does not bother after cooking all day nothing really looks good anyway

I make what I call fatboy hamburgers ! Lowerys celery salt and grill them with a touch of butter on them! My kids go nuts

Cooking does not affect me at all. I don't go over in my mind what I'm going to eat like I used to preop. I am really aware now of my preoccupation with food and how much I was gonna eat before surgery. Food has no hold on me now. Even stuff I used to love like cheesecake, icecream, pies, etc. I don't even care or feel deprived. I'm just not interested. I enjoy cooking for others, and have thrown several parties, BBQs, etc since having surgery.

Thanksgiving has a lot of protein options too obviously with turkey and ham, etc. My family usually makes both. But don't be worried about having to stay out of the kitchen, because it's like the surgery took my ability to be tempted away. What a relief it has been!!!!

I want to second what Callie said about how the surgery seems to shut off the "temptation button." I still have memory of how good all those pre surgery foods were, but I think it has to do, in part, with the leveling of blood sugars when you are on a mostly high protein diet. I have chosen to stay away from rice, pasta, even breads at this point and I'm 5 months post op. Yes, I know we can eat some of these things in small portions, but haven't missed them, and don't want to eat "like I did before." You know? It is a gift to have a different relationship with the food we have to eat daily...without it running my thoughts all day long.

I will be cooking dinner and like a few other people have said, I actually cook more and enjoy cooking more since after the surgery..(weird huh??)...

I cooked but I have always had problems with big holiday parties I always over eat and then I head to the bathroom to get rid of the overload so I recomed 1 teaspoon of your favorites and chew chew chew. Use a sauscer plate that is all you will be able too handle 23 years out and I still use a sauser plate for meals.

I actually like cooking more, i am deff more creative because i am in no big hurry to finish. It isnt like i am starving and wanting it now. My family loves it and because i have had this done i find myself cooking more healthy foods for the kids and hubby as well. Good luck to you

I was never hungry after a long day of prep for a holiday meal anyway. Being tired is now the number one reason my pouch can be sensitive to food. Anyways, I enjoy a full, beautifully presented plate even if I only eat a spoonful or two. That may be enough to satisfy your mind and heart so you feel like you are having a good experience. And look at it this way - less eating, more time and energy to enjoy the people around you (unless of course your relatives drive you crazy LOL)

Love to cook and bake for others..always have..always will. Today I'm baking some choc cherry surprise brownies for a picnic we're going to. Tonight Peanut butter and oatmeal cookies, and it's doesn't bother me a bit.

I used to love to cook, but now I only cook for others about once a week. I live with my husband and grown daughter, and I let them worry about their meals and I take care of mine. It must work, cause no one complains about it!

I am lucky my daughter does all the cooking for us. I can cook to survive, but I am not a fancy cooker at all. My daughter will try anything once, but she is now cooking much more healthier things since my surgery.
I just found out that she has invited a friend to come over for Thanksgiving, to spend a few days with us. I feel a little funny because i don't know this person and I am uncomfortable eating on my little plate around strangers. I guess I really shouldn't care because it is my health that matters, not what other people think, right?
Good luck your your upcoming surgery, keep asking questions. This is a great site to be involved with because everyone here cares about each other.
Let us know the day of your surgery so we can say a little prayer for you, that way you know all will be okay!

I have always liked to cook but didn't do it very much before my surgery. It was always easier to just go through a drive thru and grab something. Now, I cook pretty much every night, and on the nights I don't, I hear complaints when I tell them to go find something in the kitchen because I'm not hungry LOL Never thought I would say that "I'm not hungry". I had my surgery 4 days after Christmas last year and can't wait til a family gathering this year so I can show off LOL Terrible, I know, but hey, I've worked my butt off for it!
You will be fine, just remember to eat your protein first, and just tablespoons of "extras".

I'll be 6 weeks out on Monday, but I still love to cook! With fall juuuust around the courner, I'm getting geared up to start baking and making soups, stews and the likes.
T'giving has been at our daughter's for the past 10 years and we are going up to my g'mother's for a family reunion of sorts, so I can cook to my hearts content and then leave it at someone elses house! Works for me!
My hubby always makes beef jerky for C'mas presents... this year I'm making sure he makes a little extra for me, because I know I'll be munching down on that instead of some of the other holiday goodies!

I still cook for my sons when they come over for dinner. I just do not taste the food anymore like I use to, so it can be a hit or miss.
