Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. Anyway what I would do is go over a list of things you eat a lot of. From there fixate on which surgery will help you get the best results for the rest of your life.
I had a Lap Band previous to RNY, it was easy to cheat my diet and eat when I wanted to be comforted. Also because sugar didn't really fill me it just slipped right on through I ate it all the time. Before surgery it wasn't really an issue, but as I knew how to cheat the band I did it more and more often, especially when I was comfort eating.
Anyway thats where I would start...Best Wishes
I know how difficult this decision can be and haveing surgery is a scary thing, no matter what the procedure is. I trully feel that sometimes too much information is a bad thing. You should make a list. Pros and Cons that you have for each procedure and figure out from there which one is right for you and then once you decide, then go with your gut feeling.
Best of luck to you.

I thought I would have the sleeve at first as the malabsorption of RNY kind of freaked me out... but then I decided it was a perk as long as I took my vitamins. I also learned i had to take vitamins with sleeve too. Anyways, it is a personal choice. And while what the surgery's all about is important to know, i think what the surgery gives you is most important. :)
Best of luck figuring it out! :)
Do your research on both and just continue to ask questions. My prayes are with you. debby
I decided on RNY because of dumping and the inability to tolerate many foods... I personally needed that tool... I know myself well enough to know that if I thought for even a second I could eat a cupcake and wouldn't have any "sickly" side effects, then I would eat that cupcake... I am deathly afraid of dumping so I won't even try it...
I also liked that RNY has been around for a long time and there is evidence of long term success... The sleeve is fairly new and didn't have that...
Those for me helped me to decide.... But only you know what is best for you.. Good luck... We will be here cheering you on no matter what you decide...
I chose RNY because I wanted the strongest tool possible (without going to the extreme of the duodenal switch.) I wanted both restriction and mal-absorption and I was hoping I'd have dumping, too (and I do!) I am allergic to NSAIDs, so it didn't matter that I couldn't take them with the RNY.
With that said, a sleeve can be converted to an RNY later. The reverse is not true. I know many successful sleevers.
Wishing you the best as you decide.
JJ
No regrets!
I got 6 tiny little scars to show for it.
My support group has up to 50 people in it each and every month I have attended without fail for 18 months. I can see the progress of RNY vs Sleeve patients before my eyes. I see much more long term goal reaching and success from the RNY proceedures. I am not a doctor. So please take my advice only from a spectator standpoint.
Good Luck on your decision. Susan
