I am pretty new to this board but I check in everyday.
I am within days of being scheduled for my surgical appointment which will be followed 2 weeks later by surgery.
So whats the problem right?
Well I live in Northern Ontario. I have been waiting for over a year to even see a surgeon in my own province (although I am still on their list). I applied for out of the country insurance through OHIP and was accepted. Now I am traveling to Traverse City Michigan everything.
This is posing a huge problem.
It is very difficult for friends and or family to drop work to attend surgery with me in the United States for over a week. I really don't want to be a burden to anyone.
But... I just found out that they will be shipping me out of the hospital within a couple of days and I will have to hole up in a Motel until my stent can come out. I am told about a week.
I have visions of being alone and having something go terribly wrong in a strange country with no one to help me.
My insurance has approved 25,0000 worth of care. I would think with that amount of money I would be kept in the hospital until I could go home.
My daughter was supposed to go with me but she is having problems and I don't want to be another problem for her.
Will I be OK by myself. This will also require me to drive 7-8 hours home alone after all this.
I am finding this all out today as I was never told. I am pretty bummed out.
Any thoughts?

I am fairly tough as well and I thought maybe I could make it but then again I am not as young as I used to be.
I have a water pillow my chiropractor gave me that I can't sleep without. It must weight 20 lbs filled. I could take the water out but then I would be worried that I wouldn't get the water back in the way I like it. I'll decide that later but I do know it's coming with me.
I feel so damn good!

I hope you let all of your Canadian friends know that Americans aren't as mean and insensitive as they were led to believe.
I'm a firm believer in that most Countries feel others are full of bad people........this is why there is so much hate in the world.
In my opinion it's not the Countries, but some of the occupants that are bad.........Al Qaida for example, in several Countries.

I think Traverse City is amazing.
That being said I have been to some parts of Detroit that scared me but then I have been to parts of Toronto that scared me as well.
My personal opinion is that it's all about ignorance.
Your way is different than my way and my way is better.
I hope to see more of the city when I go back for follow up appointments.
I will be bringing friends with me when I come and they will see for themselves.
It's just that a week (possibly more) with only a couple weeks notice is difficult for some people especially this close after Christmas (I imagine)

She was great she has 3 kids of her own. I know we sometimes really want somethings to happen but I would rather you be safe. I'm glad that you have someone there for you.

Also I lived in Michigan for 13 years, and Loved both Traverse City (for vacation), and lived by Dearborn. I am thrilled to hear that there are new surgical centers in Dearborn specializing in GBS... I'd definitely consider the Dearborn area, though it's a much further distance, for you. Dearborn has some wonderfully, progressive hospitals and has been recognized in other areas (infertility, cancer research to name two), for years. This doesn't surprise me that they are stepping up in Bariatric surgery these days .
