Oh dear - I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I hope it's a short delay in finding the right insurance. I wish I had more answers for you. I really do feel badly for you. I'm just starting the insurance journey.

Can you change hospitals?

@lineka- i could look into going to another hospital but they have different pre-op requirments so I would have to start their process all over again.

Starting the requierments for the pre-op is easier than the insurance policy issue. Usually pre op is just talking to you, to your surgeon, the insurance, blood work .. easy stuff....

I can understand why you would be frustrated! I would do what others suggested and find a different hospital instead. Ask for your records from the first hospital and maybe the other hospital can use some of those test results for your requirements, etc. Good luck!

I agree that maybe looking into another hospital would work... I don't see why the records can't be transferred... Maybe call your insurance company and ask them who they suggest... They have already paid for all the pre-op, they should be willing to advise you as to where to go.... I am so sorry this happened to you... But it is just a setback.... Don't give up on your final goal....

Okay, I will say it. WTF?!?!! THAT TOTALLY BLOWS!!!!

I can't believe they called you on a Friday to tell you they were going to stop dealing with your insurance company MONDAY?!?!? Seriously?!?!? Was that some sick kind of April Fools joke???

Hospitals don't just suddenly decide to drop an insurance company. Someone, somewhere knew this was being considered and decided to string you along anyway?? Somebody should have notified you sooner. The hospital had no problem accepting all the money for your pre-op work, did they? They should grandfather you in since you had already finished the requirements. At the very least they should help you find another hospital and get all the pre-work to them for you.

Personally, I'd be ripping somebody new orifice!!

I agree and i am livid for her jj - what the hell klnd of foolishness is this? There has to be a way around it. When are you scheduled to have the surgery. Listen get on the phone and talk to the administration at the hospital and blow up the phone until you get someone from your insurance company. This is one of those times when you have to do some forceful talking for yourself and let them know that there is no way this can happen now. OMG i'd probably rip someones juggler out. I wish you all the best keep us informed, I will be praying for you.

I wish these people could just step into our shoes just once to know how devastating these type of changes can be for us when we have dedicated our time to get this done. This is beyond heartless. Hang in there sweety.

I am SOOOO SORRY!! It totally BLOWS!!! I agree with everyone else!! Go at it from BOTH angles! What it takes to change ins AND see if you can stir up some S#it at the hosp/doc office!!

I am almost 4 years post gastric bypass and haven't been an active member for awhile. When I read your post, I couldn't believe that the hospital dropped you after you had already completed your pre-op work there - that just isn't right. I hope you call your insurance company tomorrow. I agree with JJ, the hospital should grandfather you in since you already et the requirements. Best of luck to you.

So sorry this happened to you. I had a similar thing happen. I went for preop and after waiting for forever they said they no longer took my insurance. Another place will open up and it will all work out for the better. You have jumped through the hoops. Another place should honor all your appts. Best wishes!

Have you tried talking with a "patient advocate" at this hospital to determine if under the circumstances you can be "granfathered" for coverage. Also call your insurance carrier and discuss circumstances and alternatives avenues to persue. Whatever you do do not just go away quietly. d

Oh MAN!!! This does stink. I am in agreement - MAKE NOISE!!! I would even threaten to get an attorney involved. Stand up for yourself and try to find someone at the insurance company to advocate for you as well. And why isn't the DR in on this? It's money out of his pocket too. Him and his staff have put in a lot of time and effort not to mention what you've have invested. YOU DESERVE BETTER TREATMENT THAN THIS!!!!

I would be very upset. The hospital should have notified you before Friday about this. That is crazy! Call your insurance co and talk to them about this and also call that hospital and talk to a patient advocate. It sounds like someone dropped the ball at the hospital or your surgeon about letting you know about this. I don't blame you for being frustrated. I would be too.
