Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. At 4 months out, I am down 64 lbs from when I started the process, about 50 since surgery. Have about another 20-25 lbs to go until goal. I walk four miles a day and have boundless energy.
I feel better, stronger and more alive than I ever have in my 49 years.
Go for it sweetie - you won't regret it
I suggest if you are worried to ask the Doc or Nurse how many surgeries they have preformed and also ask if its ok to get something before surgery to calm your nerves, my Doc gave me a shot of something, just made me feel really calm.
I did mess up the 2nd week, I felt too good and went out to the shop and tried to mechanic on a motorcycle. I knew i had a no lift order. Made myself sore! No damage done.
At 5 months out I have lost 95 pounds and feel great.
In the hospital I had a catheter the 1st day. I had to do the 2 weeks liquid diet before surgery and 1 week after, Then the steps of pureed, soft and so on. I had no drainage tube. I got 6 tiny scars. I began working outin a gym this week. I only waited this long untill I could afford it, I was able long ago. At first they let me walk for 10 min a day on my treadmill at home. Now I do an hour at the gym on the treadmill AFTER doing free weight and the crunch machines. I am going today to have a trainer some me houw to use the rest of the stuff. I do a mile security check walk every nite at work mst the time way. Before surgery I could barely get around.
I would say the only regret I have it not getting the surgery a very long time ago!
I've lost about 45 and have no regrets. It's hard getting to that first step of surgery, but once it's done, its a relief. Each day is work,,,,getting all your water/protein in. The feeling you get with each pound lost makes all that work worthwhile. Even when people don't opt for weight loss surgery and do it on their own, it's still got to be a daily conscious effort for success. It's a lifestyle change, for life. Good luck with whatever decision you choose! ;-)
I did have some pain for a week or so, but not awful. And I had zero complications or issues after surgery.
I did have to have my gallbladder removed a few weeks ago. But that wasn't hard either.
I've lost 163 pounds and now weigh 142lbs. Gone from a size 26 to an 8.
Definitely worth it!
