I've finished all my pre-op appointments with the exception of the surgical pre-op. My dr's office called the other day to say they will need to test me for a stomach bacteria prior to surgery. Any ideas what that is?

I had to go to the lab and blow air in a bag, then drink some really carbonated lemon drink and do it again. They said It was to make sure I didn't need an antibiotic before surgery.

Probably the same thing. Said I couldn't have any antacids at least 2 weeks prior and I have to make sure I dont have anything to drink or brush my teeth at least an hour prior to the test.

They are probably looking for H. pyloria bacteria that can predispose you to ulcers. usually a quick antibiotic treatment to get rid of it

Yep helio pylori bacteria. I had that severl yes ago. Had to take two weeks of strong antibiotics.

I had it many years ago 2x. THe treatment then was called the prev pack. just previced and one or two antibiotics to kick its little butt.

yup H. Pylori check. They checked me during my endoscopy. It is a nasty bacteria if untreated so you would want to know anyway. My sister had it with significant chronic ulcer concerns as a result. Life changing for her. You don't want that with the upcoming surgery. Can be cured though with minimal if any impact if caught early enough so don't sweat it.

I was treated for this with Ursodial after my surgery!! The surgeon said that it is very common and most of us don't realize its there. Antibiotics for a couple weeks and it was all clear.

Thanks everybody. She's going to make sure I don't have it so I can be treated before surgery.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
