They sent me home from the hospital yesterday even though I wanted to stay another night. I still hurt all over my stomach. They took out the drain but the staples are still there. The pain meds I was given to go home aren't touching the pain. Getting up out of bed is a nightmare. Last night I started having really liquidy weird diarrhea. I'm going to call once they open, but is that normal?

Did you have laproscopic or open incision? The pain will be there for about a week - 2 weeks (at least for me it was). The problem with diarrhea will be dehydration. If you have more, you definitely need to call. Yes getting up out of bed is a nightmare. Try rolling to the side that is least painful a bit, and push with the opposite arm so you can get on your elbow with the other, then push up to a sit while you swing your legs over the side. What pain med are you taking? For me, pain meds rarely touch the actual pain, but they make me loopy enough that I just don't care anymore. Hang in there. It DOES get better, although it is hard to believe at the moment.

Laparoscopic. The pain med they put me on I'd dilaudid- I think that's how it spelled. Doesn't make me loopy either. The pain is crazy.

I agree with Holly, the rolling out of bed was a lot easier. Only one of my nurses in the hosp suggested that and boy was I glad. You will feel better every day. I also had a weird diarrhea in the first few days. I was told it was normal. They said the bowels absorb some of the body/bloody tissue. Walk, sip, then nap!!! You're getting there!

It does get better, though I remember seriously thinking it wouldn't. My friend had the sleeve done the same day I had my bypass. She never had much pain, and I really kept thinking something horrible must be wrong that I was in such terrible pain. But it does get better. Little at a time. The first 3 weeks were touch and go, after that I was so happy that I was feeling better. And by 1 month out I felt really good. I am almost 3 months post op now and while the first little bit I questioned my sanity for having this done when I felt so bad. I am now thankful everyday that I did. I feel great! And I am able to do things I couldn't do before. Hope your recovery is quick. You will be glad you did it when the pain clears. :)

All of that sounds like part of normal recovery but if you are concerned do call. Major surgery takes time to recover from. My husband was great at helping me get out of bed. It gets better with every day. Give it time. It takes at least 4-6 weeks to heal

I'm still in hospital cause I couldn't release gas! Finally did and feel much better! Although now I feel the muscle pain more! And yep getting in and out of bed is a good time! Going home tomorrow morning! Hang in there girl! It's gotta get better!
