I work in a retirement community and I have about 345 residents that I interact with on varying levels. I have been very honest about my surgery and they have all been very supportive of my decision (I have worked here for 17 years so I have know a lot of these people for a long time). Although sometimes I feel like I am on display at a science fair or something. They constantly ask me how much weight I have lost, some even what to touch me!! I get to eat in a resident dining room for my lunch, sometimes I purchase my meal sometime I bring my lunch from home. They comment on my food - asking what I am allowed to eat and how much. I know they mean well but sometimes it really gets to me!

Do I look forward to the day when people are used to me? Of course... But I really try to just understand and go on with my day....
