Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I'm 15 months out and have lost 163lbs total. I think I lost about 30 of those during my three week prescription protein shake diet right before surgery. But I can't honestly remember exactly.
It's all weight loss. It's all my hard work. It all got me to 8 pounds under goal where I've been for the last two months.
I was not required to have any liquid diet or any weight loss prior to surgery, but did lose 12 pounds from July 27 until surgery day.
My goal weight of 148 (I'm 5'4" and soon to be 57 years old) was reached on 9-23-2012. It slowed down and settled at 141 in November 2012. I had my plastic surgery 6 weeks ago. My surgeon took away just under 4 pounds of tissue. Over that time frame, I lost an additional 10 pounds ( including said tissue). I'm currently maintaining 131. I really don't want to drop any further.
I agree with the post that said you will get to a point where you realize there are so many variables in all this, that you really stop the obsession with the numbers. In the beginning it is nice to get a feeling for what kind of successful losses are happening to others. I think just knowing the possibility of achievement is important to personal success, especially in the beginning.
Best of luck in your journey! Above all, remember, it is YOUR journey!
Blessings!

I don't mean to scare anyone. I talk openly because one I need support sometimes when you have complications it just makes you forget why you started with this. It makes you wonder if it was worth it. I talk because nothing In life is all pink and rosy and if no one speaks no one has the information for if it happens to them.
Don't judge your decisions out of fear of the what if's. What if you were told the world was going to end tomorrow? Would you stop your life incase its true? This procedure has come so far. Don't borrow trouble but just be aware so if something feels off you get yourself to the doctor fast. Be assertive so if something is off and you aren't listened to you can seek people who do listen....and treat yourself well so you do not have to do this again. The biggest thing is give and accept support from all who have it to offer. there are no hero's in this just fellow fighters.
