Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
It is one of the side effects some folks have, no biggie, The RNY was still worth it!
I don't know how to avoid it. Certain foods seem to make it worse just like before surgery. Seems like if I eat something that makes me ill and I have a dumping syndrome round, it makes the gas worse afterward.
Just a good sense of humor helps as much as anything.
The nurse told our class to begin taking a good probiotic and that would help with the smell of gas .....and it works. I have only had smelly gas a couple of times when I ate a dairy product. I often eat beans and no problem. She did mention to not get Activia.as it wasn't that good for us. I was able to find gummy bear probiotic and I take them daily.
I'm 9 days into my liquid diet, surgery on 11/16. I had a problem with constipation until 2 days ago (prior to liquid diet, no problems once so ever). I was drinking Lactaid non-fat milk. The other day I used 1 % milk and that got things going for me. I also had some chicken broth and increased my water intake. Good luck.
