Sleeve or R&Y

My friend had the sleeve done 2 months ago and is down 65 lbs. We talked in depth about things and he told me that because I he had the sleeve done, he is never hungry and has to force himself to eat because that portion in the stomach that makes you hungry was taken out. He told me that because Im getting R&Y I will be hungry all the time but will not be able to eat a lot at all. He said he can deffinitely eat a lot more since he had the sleeve.
Im not concerned about the portion size, but is it true that I will always be hungry? Thats part of my problem!
So what the reallity? My friend is not a Dr but I wanted to hear from you all.

I prepared for the RNY when I started this journey. However when I met with the surgeon he indicated he felt the sleeve was a better option for me with my medical history. so, I opted for teh sleeve at his suggestion. I am 5 wks post op and have had NO complications....I am never hungry and have to remember to eat at the appointed times. I knew the sleeve does not have the data behind it as a stand alone surgery but I also know the data they do have is very encouraging!! I did not worry about it being non-reversable. I intend to stay on the program for life so I shoudl need to worry about reversal! GOOD LUCK with whatever choice you make!!

While it is true that the RNY can be reversed (none of our stomach is actually removedeverything is just re-wired) and the sleeve can't be(because they actually remove a portion of the stomach), reversing the procedure is a difficult, dangerous procedure.

Not all RNYers dump. Some sleevers do.

RNY is approved by the American Medical Association as a way to reverse type 2 diabetes. The sleeve isn't. The studies I've read believe the reversal happens because of the change in the body's hormones that regulate how the body handles insulin.

Sleevers can take NSAIDS. RNYers can't.

I had the sleeve this last summer. Like becca said, most of my hunger is in my head. I get full easily and am only feeling hungry if I am working later than normal and realize it's been hours since I had anything at all! Also, if you drink all your liquids then that keeps you full. More than that, I feel satisfied. Which I never felt before. :)
