I understand how you feel. I have obstructive sleep apnea, and I sleep with a CPAP and mask every night. When I first got started, I was freaking out with it as well. The test was horrible both nights, and I (out of sheer exhaustion) fell asleep (I guess) long enough to give them the data they needed.
In fact the first six months after getting my CPAP...I would put my mask on at night, and wake up with it off in the morning. Somehow or another I was ripping it off in the middle of the night...without knowing it!
I have been back in for a few retitrations, but now I do something different (that the sleep doctors don't like, but I don't say anything). Right before I go for my sleep study/retitrations...I take an Ambien CR. That way no matter how uncomfortable I am, I can still sleep without almost having a panic attack, and they can gather their data.
The truth is...unless you are asleep, they can't gather their data. So, in my opinion the Ambien CR gives all of us (me, the doctors, the techs) exactly what they need to make decisions.
Hope this advice helps!
I am so upset that this is going to cause a set back in my surgery date. I wish the tech would have attempted to work with me a litle more or that they had the nasal canula type of mask I might have been able to tolerate that. Ugghhh I hate this feeling of not knowing what is going to happen.
After I talked to her I got another call from my GI doctor that my endoscopy results were in and I was negative for h-pylori and also the polyps they took and biopsied were normal as well. So my day is looking up!!
I hope this doesnt make a difference on your surgery date.. Yanno Kelly, My Drs didnt even use the darn thing in surgery!
Waste of $$ and time.
Best wishes!
Bonnie
So now I have this CPAP machine that I hardly use because I can't get any sleep with it on. I have tried a couple of different masks and I still feel like I am suffocating. I was told that I have to use the machine about 4 hours per night or the insurance company could make me pay for it. Well, you know what? I may be paying about $7k for this machine because my average time has been about 1 hour a night and some nights, I don't put it on at all. I have my follow up appointment soon and I hope my doctor tells me I can return the machine or something.
What's interesting is I've heard several people say they can't sleep without their CPAP. Saying they get a good night's sleep with it. I was hoping I would join them since most times I don't sleep through the night.
BTW, my boyfriend told me he noticed that since my surgery, I have not being snoring so maybe I don't need the machine after all.
Good luck with your CPAP because I am not having luck with mine at all.
