Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I had to do psych, cardiologist, endoscopy for stomach, ultra sound of organs, 3 months of medically supervised weight loss, and the pre-op diet. That took me quite some time because of family issues that delayed the process.
It's all over with now and I'm 3 weeks out from surgery. Best thing I ever did.
The Respiratory therapist I had, at my sleep clinic was very nice, explained a lot, and they offer you a drink! And you have a TV!
You will be fine..they talk to you, and have you do a few things,......look in a certain direction etc...And then you are good to go!
Good luck, when you reschedule, its not as weird as you think.
Boo
I went in and they had me sit in a chair to hook up all the wires on your head, face, chest, and legs then you are asked to lay in bed giving you the opportunity to watch tv if you like. Then they go out and come on speaker asking you a series of things to do like what Boo said to move your eyes, yawn, move your legs so they can set up the monitors properly. Then they let you rest which I turned tv off and just went to sleep on my side away from camera. It seemed like I couldn't do it but with how comfortable the bed was, I was able to. They did come in once to adjust monitor under my nose. I had told them I wake up early around 5 needing the restroom, well they ended up waking me up at 6....shocked me that I slept that late which is rare!! Unfortunately they found sleep apnea in the rem part of my sleep so I was scheduled for another sleep study with a cpap machine! Felt very let down but then the more time I had to think about it, the more grateful I was they found it and am now treating it!! They offer you a bagel or toast and juice in the morning while you wait for the doctor then you are able to leave in most cases. My doctor was thinking of having me stay and nap with a cpap machine later in the afternoon but then just scheduled it for another day.
It honestly took about 3 weeks to get use to my cpap but I am feeling better in the mornings. Less headaches and no need for a nap every day after lunchtime like before. Good luck and even if you need a cpap, it's not a permanent thing most times! My sleep doctor said, my chances are great that I won't need it after I lose the weight. She said I won't even be able to tolerate the pressure so that makes me happy and an incentive to be successful!
Best wishes all goes well for you!! This is so common for them, we are harder on ourselves about it than what it really is! My second study was a breeze as I knew what to expect! You can do this, it really is worth it!! :-)
