I started off taking almost 3 weeks off and then extended by a week. Realistically I should have extended a bit farther as the week I went back I only made it through 3 days and then called in sick 2. A lot has to do with how able you are to get breaks at a reasonably scheduled time and can you still focus on getting enough fluid in. I had a hard time with a busy job getting enough fluids plus I still felt very worn out.

I was back to work in two weeks. Dr told me nothing heavy for six weeks. By the time I was six weeks out I was snowmobiling 120 miles a day.... If you work at a desk two weeks should be fine but not for all. If you dig ditches figure 4-6. Fluid is A1 most important...

I took 3 weeks but have a desk job and could have went back in 1 or 2 but loved every minute of my time off (I work for state government).

i work for city government in a 2 person office (my boss & me...we supevise each other!) My job is a very sedentry job. I have a hassock under my desk and I use it to keep my legs up. this helps with fluid not building up the way it would if my feet were down all day. I missed a total so far of 8 full days including the day before surgery. I started back yesterday for 4ish hours and have done well for the 2 days. I was not pressured in coming back early, i was just totally bored and needed a different atmosphere. i do know that if i need to, i will not go in if i am having a bad day.

I was in the hospital for 4 days after my GBS, went home for 2 days and was back in the hospital for 2 days due to blood loss. I would highly recommend 2 weeks off to allow yourself time for healing, doctors office visits and to get used to your new pouch. I am 40 years old and in nursing school and did the surgery on spring break (on a Tuesday) and planned to go back to school the next Monday... due to being in the hospital I went back Wednesday (8 days after surgery). I had a clinical that I had to stand on my feet for 12 hours and had class I had to go to and sit for 3 hours 3 times in that week after my surgery. It was very tough, but I did it. I would take all the time off work you can get!!! I wish you the best with your surgery and will keep you in my thoughts!!!

I am a cardiac cath lab nurse in a VERY busy unit. I went back 2 weeks post op working 10 hour days (and taking call). In hindsight, I should have started back half days or 8 hour shifts in the beginning. I didn't have any restrictions, but I was dead dog tired at the end of the day and went home and did very little besides drink something for "dinner" and go to sleep for the first 2 months or so. I did manage to sip on water all throughout the day while I was working.

I took 3 weeks. I was 2 nights in the hospital, and felt good after a week. I think 2 weeks is enough time if you have no complications.

I was still not feeling fab at 2 weeks and would recommend taking longer, especially if short term disability kicks in and you get paid at 100%. thats how my job works and I had to take 5 sick days and everything else was short term disability - I really wish I had taken more like 3-4 weeks

I work in an office and my bosses & co-workers are extremely supportive. I took 2 weeks from date of surgery (May 18, 2010) and then came back 1 week 4 hr days and then back full time. I am tired when I get home and go to bed a lot earlier but I am told that is to be expected for a few weeks. Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you.

I took 8 weeks off. Started out as six but then i got an extension, But I live in CA and got paid by state disability the entire time. I also had some severe and unexpected depression problems, and rushing back to work at my physical job would not have been the best choice for me. I also go to school full time however, I went back to class after a week and a half

I am a truck driver,and i was off for 8 weeks.most of it was winter months so it was perfect for me.
