Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
If you don't want your personal business out there, just tell them that you are on a special food plan, per your doctor, so unfortunately you can't partake in all that they are for that evening.
Other than that, I don't see their need for any more information than that!!
In regards to eating. I would call the place ahead of time, tell them you have special diet needs, and can they accommodate you with a baked or broiled fish or chicken, and some roasted veggies.
Take home what you know you can't eat.
NOthing wrong with that!!

As for real food... I cannot help you there! I've been eating real food since my second week post op. At this point (2 months) I eat pretty much anything. I stay away from the carbs for the most part, but I eat salad, steak, chicken, fish, veggies, fruit... Pretty much normal, just protein first and low carb :)
You WILL figure this out! Just go have fun!
You will do fine.. Don't dread this event.. Go as the new you, and don't let anyone imtimidate you....
When I go to restaurants, I generally order an appetizer and eat what I can and leave the rest (or offer it to whoever I'm with). If there's that much drinking going on, I can't imagine anybody will be really paying much attention to what you're putting in your mouth.
If I am going out I try to go online and see if the place has their menu posted and try to pick the healthiest option on the menu before we go. I have found that most places are very accommodating, that if you ask for something specific they will try to honor your request. No need to go into any explanation about your surgery. Grilled chicken is available almost everywhere and if its not then it is easy to make for you. Same with salmon.
I usually eat out once or twice a week with my boyfriend on weekends. I am 1 year and 3 months out so I can eat about anything. Just eat what you think you can handle at your post op point. I would try anything new you haven't tried to eat post op so you won't get sick. Just enjoy yourself and have FUN!
