Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
You sound like your exactly where you should be
You will be surprised how NOT hungry you will be.
Foods I was sure I couldn't live without I don't even care about anymore.
The kicker is I work in a restaurant! The thought of going back to work terrified me. Didn't bother me in the least.
BTW I'm 3 months post-op and never been happier
I just realized that my family will be better off with a
healthier mom/wife after having surgery. The real risk
is NOT doing something! ;-)
You are not crazy, and you will be fine. Welcome to the group! I'm 12 weeks post op tomorrow, have lost 64 pounds and feel so good! It's not easy, but it's so worth it!
This surgery was/is scary... But oh so worth it... I will be 7 weeks out on Wednesday and already see so many changes, and feel so much better... The first couple of weeks I thought I made the biggest mistake of my life because I had NO energy, and could barely get out of bed.... But right about the four week mark, that changed... I went back to my water fitness class and upped my iron supplements, and forced myself to get moving...
I still rarely feel hungry... Food bores me honestly... I spend half the day trying to come up with something tasty to eat, then I can eat so little of it that I wonder why I wasted so much time.... Someone here told me: You used to live to eat... Now eat to live.... I hear that in my brain 100 times a day.....
It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.... Stick with the people on here.. They are amazing and inspirational.... I look forward to seeing you around and hear all about your journey...
And something that no one told me before surgery, is that once you are at goal weight, you do get to eat your old favorite foods. However, they don't have the same addictive hold on you that they once held.
Things you won't care for are bread, and starchy things like potatoes, and most things fried. Pizza is not that pleasureable anymore. I consider myself lucky to have had this surgery.
I was to the point I didn't much care about the risk, I tired of living like I was. But all turned out well. No regrets wish I had done it long ago.
No you are not crazy to be scared. Read a lot about it and understand what you have to do. It's worth it all in the end. Watching the clothes get too big and the scale numbers roll down. A week shy of 4 months now and 80 lb down.
Its a big decision, if it didn't give you room for pause and ponder, something WOULD be wrong...
I too am preop. Won't be till Aug for me....
Welcome to DS!! Glad you decided to post! :)
I thought I was a little crazy too until I came here and realized the emotional roller coaster I've been on is a normal part of the process. Before too long, we'll be posting our successes just like the rest of the group and the inspiration you'll get here will make all the difference in the world.
Congratulations and I wish you the absolute best!!
As the others have said, your emotions are totally normal. You are not crazy. Everyone has the same (or at least similar) lines of thinking.
This place/these people have been my therapy. They have held my hand through the process, cheered me on, picked me up, and done the happy dance on my behalf.
Glad you joined us. I can't wait to watch you shrink!!
