hi,
I really enjoy fat free refried beans. I had bought some at Walmart, and then another time at a local grocery store called TOPS.
So, tonight, I grabbed both cans. I compared the ingredients, and this is what I found. It pays to read the labels. Here is the same product, but you'll see the difference in the grams/mg that is in them.
FAT FREE REFRIED BEANS -SERVING SIZE 1/2 CUP
TOPS BRAND-120 CALORIES, 0 Fat, Sodium 290 mg., Carbs 22 grams, Dietary Fiber 7 grams, sugar 1 gram, Protein 8 grams. Contains: Cooked beans, water, salt and garlic, and 2% vitamin c.
WALMART BRAND-100 calories, 0 Fat, Sodium 480 mg !!!!, Carbs 19 grams, Dietary Fiber 5 grams, Sugar 1 gram, Protein 6 grams. contains prepared dry beans, water, salt, onion powder, chili powder, garlic powder, and spice. NO VITAMIN C
I personally, need to watch my sodium, cause I retain fluids. My sodium using the TOPS brand is quite a bit lower!! Plus, there are 2 more grams of protein in them!
So, read your labels, even for the same item in 2 different stores, you will probably be surprised!

Wow, what a comparison. Tomorrow I'm going to get my brand of choice out, also the fat free, and compare. You are definitely right, read your labels. Great post, and thanks for the info. . . Patti

Wow, that's pretty crazy with the same product just different brands and what they do! I just started reading labels this week and really was surprised by a lot of products! The front of the packages are so misleading and upsetting a little how it can trick people! I was going to buy low sodium string beans, yams with no syrup, and asparagus in the cans and after reading the labels, I went right to the fresh produce and felt better buying it that way instead!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
