Have any of you tried quinoa (keen-wa)? It's great. I have it instead of rice. It is easily digestible. It provides all the essential amino acids and is a complete protein. It has no gluten either. It's an ancient grain that the Inca's called the mother grain cuz it was so important to their diet. It has a light nutty taste. The texture is different than rice, but yummy just the same. It cooks in only about 15 min. and you can use it in a lot of different ways. I'm trying lots of new things that are healthier and tolerable for me. This has been a great find! You can even have it fixed like cream of wheat or oatmeal. I'm really surprised that it's not more popular....Good eating kids!! Julia

I buy it at Raley's or Safeway. It's also available through amazon.com. If you buy some, make sure the product has already been rinsed well to remove it's bitter coating (saponin). Most commercially avail. is already rinsed. Google quinoa for more info. There are other sites besides amazon to buy it from, but you might want to try a small box from a grocery store. The box usually comes packaged with recipes and ideas for serving. I hope you enjoy it! It's been a fun product to experiment with.

Miss LaChaney suggested Quinoa to me because I can't keep any kind of protein shake down. It's not sold in Canada (as far as I've been able to see), but I found it online at www.nutsonline.com and they deliver to Canada. I just got it today, so I'll keep you posted.

OH yes.... Make sure you buy organic if possible. Most health food stores sell it, too.

There aren't many foods that are a complete protein (meaning you don't have to eat meat with it). This one is a thumbs up for sure!

I'm surprised it's not more popular also. If you buy it in the grocery store, be sure to rinse rinse rinse....
