Your whole stomach will be a mess anyway from the laproscope holes (I don't remember the technical term...). But I did have my monthly visitor during a knee surgery in 2005. They won't let you wear a tampon if you're having general anesthetic. And they gave me depends-type undies to wear that were diaper like, but I was so out of it I barely noticed. My hospital would not let me use a regular pad. Good luck!

Got mine the day after surgery. I was SO glad I took my own sanitary pads and underwear to the hospital. The supplies the hospital have are archaic!

I thought i may have my period during surgery too, i talked to the nurse at the hospital and she said not to worry, they have seen it all and as uncomfortable as i am about it, i should worry. like jhqwlliot said, they give you this depends thing...

This is nothing to worry about or reschedule over... after all its just a period and im sure you wont be the first or last to go through surgery with your monthly friend. Added bonus....if you have bad cramps, this will be the best period ever, you will have access to great pain meds, your will forget your even on it ;o)

LOL! Very true about the pain meds. I certainly wouldn't reschedule over this, but it's definitely going to be an interesting time! :)

I was just finishing up mine when I went in for surgery. It wasn't a big deal, they put a pad underneath me for the surgery and then in my bed, too. I was done, though, after that day so the rest of the time I was in the hospital wasn't an issue. You can't use tampons, though, so definitely take your own pads if you think you might need them!

I should have started the day after surgery but it waited until the day I came home from the hospital but I worried about it too, so its only natural to think of the possiblilty of dealing with both surgery and your period. You'll be fine, just go prepared for the possiblity.

I actually started the day I got out of the hospital (much earlier than my regular cycle). I also know that with the blood thinners I was on, it was a much heavier cycle than I've had in years.

But like blurpee said, no matter how uncomfortable you are about the situation, the doctors and nurses that you'll be working with have seen it all before. But you will probably feel better about it if you go prepared.

I totally prearranged to avoid that! i was due for it and talked to my doctor and she let me skip the placebo week of my birth control so that my monthly was a no show.... then i didnt have to deal with it until i was a month post op and doing much better!

Didn't have a normal cycle and started during surgery. Go figure... it wasn't as bad as you would think. Just be prepared with your own supplies.
