How long ago was your surgery and how big is your incision? I let mine go with a very light dressing and as soon as possible let them be dry and they've healed fine.
The lingering skin problems are the worst. My mother would have said, "oh, pop the damned things" and I would have. I'M NOT ADVISING YOU TO DO THAT. It isn't the proper advice these days, but, if you choose to do that, use only sterilized equipment (soak needles in alcohol for 10 minutes). Keep them covered since they will lose the top layer of skin (don't pull it off, let nature decide when to have it fall off). Keep them covered with sterile cotton gauze until healed.
The wound care nurses taught me a lot (my big ol' incision popped open after the stitches were out--down to the layer that covers the guts). Always use cotton--many folks are allergic to the man-made fabrics. Use non-allergenic tape. Keep the wound breathing. Clean the wound everyday. Those nurses really scrubbed and cut everytime I went in. I've been a bit less enthusiastic!
In no time you'll be all healed and feeling great. Keep your eyes on the long-term and keep us posted on your progress.
Ok so here is the scoop! I have for months had this crazy rash! They say its my body producing too much yeast!! So I have been dealing with that even months prior to surgery! Well when I came home Friday it flared up again! Itches like crazy! Burns, swells ugh! It's nasty! It of course finds the "hot" spots, my waist, under the breasts and pretty much likes my middle/stomach area! Well anyhow I called my primary doctor yesterday who perscribed me a "stronger cream" So its getting better! I shower a couple times a day, use coooool water, pat it dry and put my cream on! It is definately getting better.
I do believe the blisters are from the tape yes. I have a history of an allergic reaction to adhesives and even had the band on my wrist so they would not use crazy tape on me!! I like most of you have 6 small incisions. I took off all the bandages per doctors orders. I have steri strips now.... 5 out of the 6 look great!! The only one with the problem now is the incision
where they had the drain for the surgery in. That is the one blistering and filling up. I just keep it lightly bandaged so that in case they pop I'm not dealing with that nasty mess ugh!
Lenore - You went through sooooo much!! My surgery was a week ago today :-) I hope you are doing well!
Thank you all so much for your concern! Your all the best!
