Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I think it is a given that just losing weight - exercise or no (i never exercise) will help your joints.
Yes in the active weight loss stage there is joint pain from redistribution. but that's temporary.
I think that you may find that your current treatments become more effective after weight loss. But you'll need to remember that whatever damage done to your joints pre-op will still be there once you lose weight. However, you won't be creating as much new damage.
So, i mean, WLS can't hurt, only help in the long run. And like you said not ALL the pain will go, but i bet it'll be a lot better.
good luck,
rochelle
I have degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis... I have had 7 spine surgeries... I have also had a TKA on my right knee...
It will be four months since my surgery on Thursday and I have lost a total of 74 pounds...Is my back hurting less? Most definately... Is the pain all gone, NO....
And as for my knees... Well, the replaced one is doing better (not great, but better), and the other one still hurts like crazy.... I think it is because the damage was already done.... I can walk up and down the stairs much better, but like Rochelle said: the damage is already there...
I was doing really well at exercising but seem to be in a lull from it... And if you are interested there is a wonderful program in Syracuse that I go to that might help you... Almost everyone there has some kind of chronic medical ailment... It is called the Vitality Fitness program.. If interested message me and I can hook you up... We could even meet there and go together...
I hope you had a wonderful time on your vacation, and tuesday the 18th is the next support group in North Syracuse if you would like to go together....
I would like to go to the support group on the 18th. We can email here to confirm stuff b4 Tuesday.
Yes, I know i will still have pain, but i also know that according to my surgeon and ortho dr, said that this is the only way now, with exercise that this will help me walk better, and stand longer, once more and more of the weight comes off. Just hearing another's experience helps!!!
So, thanks for responding to me!
The program also sounds good! Sounds like we have a lot in common. Looking forward to meeting you.
