I got a msg from punkeybear.... She's STILL in the hosp!!

Tomorrow will be week nine in the hospital and on Monday it will be the fourth surgery since November when I had my RNY. I've lost 114 lbs in three months and m feeling that big time. Very weak and always tired. I've had out of control nausea combined with pancreatitis and have been unable to keep much of anything for food down. The first couple weeks after the RNY I felt great then the pancreatitis hit and they haven't been able to find out what's causing it.

I really wasn't expecting any complications from how the first two weeks went but now I definitely know otherwise. Yet through all this there has only been a few tiny bits of regret..... And that's mostly from the incredibly loose skin as I haven't had any chance to tone other than using elastics in my hospital bed, And that only does so much.

I've been shipped to a hospital 6 hours away from home and have nearly no one to visit with. I have been lucky to have a friend drive nearly two hours every day on top of her busy schedule to visit.... Even if its only for 20 minutes it really means a lot. But it sure is making the days a lot harder with no visitors to keep me busy. That and the fact that my sister is a nurse at the other hospital I was at had me plenty more visitors and treated great! I got spoiled and used to things :)

I've also been battling with the crappy Canadian healthcare , I've been transferred rooms over and over again, roomed with two male patients on different occasions.... One of which had prostate cancer and the other was naked all the time and loved to show it off! I am now on a stretcher in a corner of a room with my head nearly in a dirty sink, with a curtain separating me from the next patient and nothing on the end for privacy, I actually had to phone the hospital for assistance in my room because I didn't have a call bell and no one could hear me and I wasn't able to get out due to the cramped spaces. I actually had to ask for an extension cord soi could plug in my I've pole that's how bad it is.!!! Oh and the space I have is 3x6 with a stretcher and an if pole..... I have no room to even try and get out of bed,,,, let's hope I don't have an emergency pee throughout the night !

I'm not a happy camper right now

Wish me luck for my next surgery on Monday, it's actually a combination of two surgeries throughout the day as they have to wake me up in the middle and transfer me to another area of the hospital for a fleuroscope then back to the operating room knock me out again to finish the surgery and hopefully all will be well. !

Oh my gosh it sounds like awful conditions. It's bad enough that you have to go through all of this but you shouldn't be forced to go through it in such deplorable conditions. Praying you get better and out of there soon.

Oh sweetie - I'm so sorry!! Know that we love you and are praying for you and would do anything to make this go away. This sucks!

Thanks everyone, It's been a big melt down day with a lot of regrets... But I got thinking why should I regret this, this has nothing to do with the decisions I've made and everything to do with the crappy conditions I have had to deal with! Not to mention the delays in healthcare I should have had weeks ago ! This is our health care falling to pieces! I have debated going into the US for treatment because we all know things get done faster but I spent my entire life's savings on the RNY surgery; that I can no longer afford the best in healthcare :( Pretty sad that the millions we pay in taxes goes nowhere close to helping out the average citizen.

But... Enough of my rant.... I will get through a very long surgery ahead of me on Monday, hope it will be the last ! And I will be on the road to recovery !

Oh, Punkey -- I'm so sorry to hear this. My son has pancreatitis and I appreciate what an angry little organ the pancreas can be.

I feel so bad for you my hear breaks for you. Where in Canada are you? What hospital? I live in New York not sure how far you are from me. I pray after your surgeries you are on the road to recovery. Please keep us posted.

Sorry to hear things are so awful - where are you in Canada - I have worked in many areas in Canada and never saw anything like that - you really need to get a hold of the Provincial Health department - there is NO WAY that should be tolerated. As for the rest, sadly once something like pancreatitis is an issue - time tends to be the biggest cure. Yes sometimes things can happen faster here in the US, but I imagine anyone who has the severity of complications wouldn't be much further ahead, they'd probably have a better room...but would also be having major insurance issues, hang in there and be your best advocate - as I said contact your Provincial Health dept, fingers crossed for you
