Hello all! Merry Christmas!!
I would like to send a gentle and friendly reminder to everyone on this wonderful Wednesday.... And this is to remind everyone (myself included) how very different each of our programs are and how success looks different for each of us.
It is easy to think our program is the right way.... the best way... the only way... and to think that everyone else should be doing it our way...
There are copious programs and guidelines out there and all have their own ways of doing things...
A friend of mine had to wait 3 months before she could move to 'regular' foods... Me? Two weeks....
I know people who are not to take their vitamins for 2 months... I started the day I got home from the hospital.
Some people are on clear liquids for weeks before AND after surgery... I was on clear liquids for 2 days preop and ONLY while in the hospital post op...
The variances go on and on.... Is mine 'righter' than someone else? Or wrong because it is less restrictive?
I am doing fine at 5 months post op. Have not had ONE problem... can eat anything... (and fight that!)... feel like a million bucks! And my friends, on different programs... same thing!
Sure, some programs are more inclusive than others. Mine does not have the personal trainer like some... shoot, I spoke to someone who's program has a gym and patients get to use it for free for a year! How awesome is that!?
And I talk to people who got NO eating guidelines to speak of... get no educational classes, nut classes, etc...
So yeah, some are better than others... just like some surgeons are better than others... but overall, most are just different, not better or "righter".... :)
ALSO... on another note... when it comes to post op success.... We are all different there too!
Some people NEVER eat a carb again! Some do...
Some have a glass of wine, or a shot of tequila :) And do not have transfer addiction issues, some do.
Some can use a straw, some can't...
Some have loads of loose skin, some don't...
Some (most ) lose some hair... not everyone does...
Some exercise their hearts out... some go for a walk 3 times per week...
Some lose quick, some not so fast...
Some have to work harder on head stuff than others... Some of us (ME!) will probably have to work ever so hard on the head stuff for the rest of our lives... some just don't have to... Why? Who knows!
Some want to eat all the time... some don't want to eat at all...
Some can get in their vitamins, protein, fluids without an issue. some have to work at this every single day...
My point in all of this... is we need to keep all of this in mind when we are responding to another post... And what works for one person, might not be what works for us... and that is ok! Ones persons program might be miles different than mine, and that does not mean its wrong... just different.
I hope my post does not ruffle anyones feathers... but after a few posts I've read over the last week or so, I thought it time for this to be said.

I have tried, if I respond..to just state what my own program requires, and that is all.
Hoping we can all be aware , and know that like Becca and Sarge said, we are all different, and every Dr's office has their one program that has shown progress and success in their own patients that follow their guidelines.

This is a great reminder, thanks....
It is real easy to forget our facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. are not apparent in a posted response.... Its like email or text msg... we can easily put 'tone' to something when we truly have no idea what the tone of the msg really is!
so, while I believe all of our wonderful posters mean well.... it is not a bad idea to consider our word choices, use i statements and such when we share!
i am all for telling it the way it is! And I for sure want others to educate me when I am needing it.... but how we choose to word it is key to being heard! If the person shuts down or shuts us out... then it is pointless because the point we are trying so hard to make is never heard...

I did not mean to stir up anything... or to make people worried they were doing something 'wrong'.... after reading a few posts that made me cringe a bit.... and if they had been directed at me.... well, I might have felt a sting... I just wanted to remind everyone to be alert as to how we are delivering a msg!
