Hi everybody

I am hoping you can help. I am experiencing problems with constipation since starting the protein portion of this phase. My surgeon put me on 4 oz of protein an hour and its going down great - however, i am so outdone with this dry mouth syndrome - i started alternating 1 hour water 1 hour protein shake and its not really helping and i am starting to feel the following:

1. dry mouth
2. bloated ( i am thinking I may need to change what i mix my shakes with)
3. this scratchy almost drainy feeling in my nose and slight dizzy
4. When I try to poop I am experiencing pain in my lower abdomen and
vjay jay where they pulled the catherer out

Dry mouth is meds detoxing and the more water you cn drink the better. Fiber and water will make you daily regular. I have fiber in my morning protein coffee and a different fiber at night. Renee Life makes all digestive products. Please see your dr if you ate concerned

I have issues with constipation also. At first I had the complete opposite problem, that stopped at week one and then I went 11 days without a bowel movement! That was painful! My doctor put me on a stool softener everyday (senokot) it helps keep me semi regular (every other day). I only take one pill when the directions say take two. I find that two is a bit much and can make me bloated. I heard some people take miralax everyday in their water or protein. I found that didn't work for me.

I too have had trouble with constipation since going on the protein shakes... I take colace twice a day now... It hasn't cured it, but it sure has helped.... I am not regular per se... Sometimes it can be two or three days in between, sometimes it can be 3 times a day... But at least I can handle the pain going now... I cried and screamed in the beginning...
Talk to your doctor if doesn't get better soon.. I am thinking this is a common problem....

yeah your innards and gizzard and all those parts are settling back in and getting used to each other again...this to shall pass..OH imade a funny pun!!
as for your peekachoo..i know the deal..mr.happy was a bit sore for a bit afterwards too

and like Lcat said...fiber is good too..i would limi the amount of artificial laxitives right now...AND DONT STRAIN WHEN YOU TRY TO POOP/...you could busta stitch....SERIOUSLY...the train will leave the station so to speak on its own time schedule!!

You might also want to be sure that you don't have a urinary tract infection. That is very common when you have had a catheter. A simple urinalysis from your doctor will let you know if you have one or not.

I have been using Dulcolace since the day I had surgery. Milk of Magnesia was one of the items on my discharge paperwork that I should get and use as needed. I am still taking Dulcolace daily 2+ years later.

thank you all for responding i spoke to the nurse practitioner today and she suggested that I take 30cc's of milk of magnesia and it should move me by morning she also suggested that i use water as opposed to milk for my protein and see how that works and be sure to take the protonix daily for the gas. she is going to call me in the morning to see how i am doing.

I think she's gonna call in the morning to see "if" your going... :) Just a little poop humor this evening.... I could not resist!!

I keep reading all these posts about constipation and stinky, lively farts, I think I'm gonna stock up on necessary supplies now! LOL!

I also has trouble with constipation. I found a little milk of magnesia was helpful. It's also slow working so you shouldn't need to run to the bathroom.

Oh the runny nose syndrome. I think there's a few people here, me included that have a runny nose with every meal. It's my signal that I'm done eating. Kinda gross I know but you may be one of the lucky ones that has the runny nose button.

Good advice was given about your V, catheters can cause UTI's so you might want to have that checked out.
