I take them for the reasons you described above. I do however find I still need a stool softener, and woe unto me if I don't get enough fluids - I will back up in a hot minute.

My Dr sugessted Mirolax but I just take a small amount of corn syrup its cheaper.You didn't say whenGBS was but it akes awhile to get enough licquids. My nutritionist said if you dink enough water shouldn't have a problem, oat meal is good too.

My nut. is an all natural person so she says to try prunes, babyfood prunes or beans. I haven't had any issues but I always like the idea of not adding meds if i can avoid it.

I guess that I am very lucky on this subject. I have no problems with my plumbing since my surgery earlier this year.

Where do you get your probiotics from? I know Bariatric Advantage sells them. I still have problems with constipation. I take colace twice a day and use the ducolax suppositories.

I just got some at Walgreens, they are in their supplements isle! they are literally named "Probiotics"!

I've been taking them for a couple of days now and am really feeling better! Woot!

A bit of a disclaimer tho, I did also increase my fiber by adding fruit back into my diet, I am now eating at least 2 servings a day.

Thanks for your replies. I am 16 mos. post-op. I do take miralax and stool softners. What really excited me about this study was that the bariatric surgeon at Stanford conducting the study found that weight loss in GBS patients INCREASES and so does the absorption of b-12! Dr. Morton now recommends the addition to all of his patients. He is looking for ways to maximize results for GBS patients. I think it's great news for us, especially as weight loss slows down.

Hi Patty, I buy acidophilus pearls by Enzymatic at Walmart. They are in the vitamin section. When bariatric advantage has them available, I want to research theirs to see how they compare.

I loved this article too, I read it a few days ago and went out yesterday to get some Probiotic Supplements at my local Whole Foods market. The pharmacist at another store told me to get the probiotics from a health food store instead of a regular chain store because of the higher quality and better options. I got the Super 8 Hi-Potency Probiotic with 30 billion cells per capsule. I guess you have to keep these refrigerated or they'll die. I chose this kind because I only have to take one per day. Some of the other brands with lower doses suggested taking 2-4 a day, but I already take so many pills, I don't mind just adding one more but 4? I'm hoping that since probiotics help your vitamin B absorbsion, that this will aid in my hair loss too. Maybe I'll absorb more biotin now. I'll let you guys know how this goes for me, today is my first time to take it.

I had posted that very article on online after my Dr. mentioned it to me,last visit. I have not had plumbing problems, per say, but but found the article i posted drew an interesting connection between consuming probiotics, and greater weight loss following GBS. I have not purchased them, but planned to add them in.

I have been taking them since day one. The number of live organisms in whichever brand you buy is the key. They should number at least 1 million. I buy mine at Walgreens b/c it is the cheapest source for good quality. BTW, they also combat lactose intolerance. I know this b/c my ex and my son both have it.
