Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
If you're mixing with milk or drinking a milk-based product you could be intolerant too. Try a lactose tablet - Lactaid is the brand name but generics are fine.
See if that helps.
In the meantime I hope everything comes out ok. LOL
Red, your message came thru fine :) :) I know all about typos and auto correct!
And oh yeah!! Linda (Pancreatic) knows about my "day" too! LOL!
I'll try the lactaid and see if that helps...
So weird you wrote this today, cause I bought myself some Whey Protein Mix with Isotope? today at walmart....
I don't have my surgery date yet, but the sucker cost me $19.97, so I thought I'd try it. It's chocolate. It's out in my car, and I was planning to mix it with skim milk.
I know there are a lot of products out there, but I like chocolate flavored, so got this one. They didn't have any small containers, so I'm pretty much stuck with it, if I don't like it, or my buddies from the Syracuse, NY Area can have it, if they like it.
My doc told me, protein shakes and liquids during the day, and then a balance meal, with 3 oz of protein veggie, for dinner. Sounds like our Dr's have their patients do the same pre-op diet for 2 weeks.
Let me know how it works out for you!! Feel better soon....you'll be on your way to better things to eat!!!
Betsy
Thanks for the idea!
I've not made it to the store yet for lactaid, so I think I'll just try the fiber for now as I have that on hand.... I've only one days left till bowl prep (at this rate I may not need it! Lol!) and clear liquids only. And who knows how it will all be for me on the other side.... so I think I'll figure out the rest once I cross over :)
And Joy, so glad I could provide you with some entertainment! LOL! And Linda too! She was 'there' with me all day that day via text! :) :)
Boo, I'll report back how it goes tomorrow :)
Luv you guys!!
I have to say if you are doing more protein drinks it can make your intestines snarkey. They don't do that per say to me but they do enhance the meds I'm on for my colon. Not sure if it is a listed effect of protein but it is my experience
I tried the protein powder in water and didn't like it. I tried it in milk and it was too thick so I began using alittle more milk. It will turn my stomach (pouch) sometimes yet. The protien/fiber bars like cnady bars make me sick now too.
I need to get more protein in I got a big can at walmart that is the highest protein they had and it is Whey isolate. I'd suggest drinking slower and maybe let it sit a few min at warm up a little.
Tomorrow is the clear liquids and bowl prep... I've done this for previous surgeries.... so not my idea of a good time :)
