Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
There! Now you don't have to look it up! My doctor's team recommends it for people who did WLS some years back, fell off the wagon, and are convinced they "stretched out their pouch". Usually it's a combination of sneaky little bad habits that make you able to eat a lot more...for instnace, if you drink with your meals, especially a carbonated diet drink like Diet Pepsi that not only moves the food through the pouch faster, it helps it break down faster. "Grazing" is another issue: you don't consider it a snack since you didn't put it on a plate but you nibble little bits of non-nutritious unmeasured food all day. I could go on but you get the idea. So the pouch test is to reset your mind and your attitude as much as it is about readjusting your body. It makes a distinct break between the things you have been doing and the things you know you have to do to make this work.
All that being said...I hope I never need it!
