Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Best of luck figuring it all out!
dont you DARE let anyone talk you out of this...you will regret it forever...we have all tried...we have all failed on our own...we need/needed this to keep us alive..THATS the bottom line!!!
I would ask your mom to come on this site and read some of the posts here.... most are very positive.. and even those with problems swear they wouldn't have changed a thing..
You're blessed to have a mom that cares so much about you... all you can do is ask her to respect your decision and help her to do some research that teaches her why you've made this decision to begin with...
and soooooooooo excited that its sooner rather than later for you !!!!!!
Like Becca said, I wish I had done it years ago! I opted for surger becasue I had lost nearly 100 lb 3 different times just to have it come right back!
People who aren't obese just don't understand the struggles we face and deal with on a daily basis. You have to decide that you want to do what is best for YOU and hope that you get the support that you need.
Congrats on your date! I'm about 5 weeks out. I met with my surgeon yesterday and it was emotional because I wanted to thank him for being able to come off all meds (including blood pressure) after 3 1/2 weeks of surgery. He cried with me! But he said something that I wanted to share with you....he said "this surgery gives people back 10,15,20,or even more years of their lives...and that deserves to be emotional about. Being overweight, as well as yo-yoing your weight is hard on the heart and the body. This surgery enables you to loose and keep it off-which DRASTICALLY alters both your quality of life as well as the length of your life". In one month I went from a probable heart-attack patient....to not being...and that alone is worth the surgery! Listen to your heart about what is right for you. Don't let the fears and anxiety (even if well intended) halt the journey that you desire to take!
blessings,
lisa
Moral of the story...Your goals need to out weigh their fears. What would happen if you didnt have the surgery.
As others have said. People without weight problems just don't understand. Even though my sister has her own weight struggles, she said a lot of the same types of things.
The reality is 95% of ALL diets fail and the stats are even worse for the obese, morbidly obese, and severely morbidly obese (the category was in). Surgical intervention gives us the pest possibility of of taking off the weight and keeping it off over a lifetime. As Dr. Oz said "Listen, if you're one hundred pounds overweight at age fifty, you have the same mortality rate as if you have a solid cancer. Would you operate for cancer? Yeah" (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2011/08/dr-oz-advocates-more-gastric-bypass-surgery-/1#.UXmhsJUTHFI)
