My parents left yesterday after a week-long visit. I can sure see where I got my sweet tooth from, and I've let myself go back into bad habits! Although I didn't go as crazy as I would have in the past, I still shared dessert with them a couple days, ate a couple chocolate chip cookies Mom brought, and let her buy and bring three pies into the house (darn you, Marie Callender's pie sale!). I had her take leftovers that equaled two pies home with her, but we still had chocolate silk pie left over that I've had pieces of the last two days. Unfortunately I don't have problems with sweets other than feeling a little blah or icky afterwards, but it makes me mad that I let the thinking of "a little won't hurt me" turn into habits nearly as bad as the past! I'm not even a full year out from surgery and I'm not about to let myself reverse my wonderful new lifestyle!!

I always have to look on the good side, though, so here's this: I DID throw away the remaining chocolate chip cookies she left here. I also didn't have any dessert at all at a Bunco potluck meal last night (which is usually a dessert free-for-all and my "excuse" to try several things I don't need to be eating).

My goal for turning this around: lay off sugar and desserts until my daughter's birthday party on the 23rd, when I may (or may not!) have a small sliver of cake; recognizing that the cake really isn't the main part of the birthday and that a group of teenagers really won't care or notice if I have any.

Thanks for letting me vent, share and use myself as a cautionary tale for anyone else who is having it easy the first few months and thinking the cravings will never come back (like I thought!).
