I don't usually go OT (off topic) but I was so moved this evening by this womans courage I had to speak out.
If she can risk her life to speak out against injustice the least I can do is listen to her story.

I would be surprised if this woman is not dead. The only thing that saves her life is public awareness.
Most of this board is made up of women. The rest of this board is made up of men who have mothers, daughters, sister's aunts, grandmothers and friends,
This board is not political and neither am I however I intend to follow up and find out what happened to this women.
In short, This woman ( who is a lawyer, however the goverment says she is a prositute) was raped and tortured by possibly 15 men before her wedding. Her family and future husband are standing behind her which is also probably saving her life. No one has seen or heard from her yet.
The purpose of my post is my hope that anyone who is so inclined might show this woman any support we can.
We are stronger than we know. Hope

My understanding of Libya is that part of what makes it so hard for revolution to take hold is that the infrastructure is really, really bad. Meaning there are very limited nonprofit, NGO and the like organizations in place and functioning.
This is just my suggestion, but if you are so moved, I'd make a donation in her name to an international women's group rather than trying to get money directly there (I don't believe it will ever reach the family).
I hope this makes sense.
Here's some home grown atrocity. I am happy to make suggestions for places to send donations that support sexually exploited girls. I work with one such organization here in NYC.

This is very very disturbing. I had not heard of this. As I said I am not usually very political or even one to watch a lot of news as it just depresses me.
I would be willing to donate to such a worthy cause.This poor little girl will never be the same. As Robin says "What's wrong with people". I wish I could fiqure out who to write to about this situation in libya. There must be somebody in the position of authority would could apply enough pressure to at least get this woman the hell out of there. If there is enough trouble maybe these types of soldiers may not feel like they have such a free hand the next time around.
I don't know, donations always help but there's nothing like a stiff jail term to keep these types of scum off the street.
