I lurk on the boards a bit, but don't post often! I just wanted to put a one year update on here and hope it give those of you doubting your journey some encouragement.
Tomorrow is my one year surgiversary. And what a year it's been! I have lost 130 pounds and I am about 10 pounds below my personal goal. I am 30 pounds less than my surgeon's goal for me. I started (at my highest weight pre-surgery) at 285 pounds. I am now 146. Surgery day I was 176 pounds. I credit this group, my wonderful husband and children for my success. I have received so much comfort and encouragement from reading all of your posts. Even though I didn't post much, I knew you were all here.
I exercise at least three times a week doing walking or Zumba. Zumba is my love! It doesn't feel like exercise, just fun, fun, fun! I have run 2 5K races this past year and have at least three on the books for this summer. So I am training! I never thought I would be running at 48 years old. I don't run fast, but I run! I am healthy and active and I have had no complications. I do not eat sugar, avoid carbs and get 75 to 100 grams of protein in every day! I still eat protein bars to accomplish this, but I am fine with that. 70 to 80 oz of water. Vitamins and calcium.
Size wise, I have gone from a size 24 pant and 3X top to a comfy size 4 bottom and size medium top. I have a lot of ugly excess skin, but I figure it's better to have excess skin than excess fat. My surgeon is so happy with my progress that he referred me for plastics already. So I will explore that in September and see what can be done. If I can afford it, I will do it. My DH said "Go for it! It's like having body work done on your car and then leaving it in primer!" Such a poet he is!
Good luck to all of you newbies out there! If you are doubting this surgery, don't! It's a tool, no more, no less. What you do with it is up to you. You really do need to change your life, your existence, to be successful. I changed everything about my lifestyle. And I love every minute of it~! My motto is "Never again!"
