Just came home from one of my follow ups. Every test came back good. Dr. Says one more 6 minute stress test on the treadmill and then we can hopefully schedule my appt with the surgeon and the preop class. Has anyone else has this stress test? How was it?

Howdy!!
I had a stress test about a week ago, but because of my knee issues, they did the IV induced stress so I didn't have to walk the treadmill.... However, the machine they take the 'pictures' with is still the same, which was similar to an x-ray machine. I had to sit in this fancy chair thing, they pulled the arm thingy over my chest and took a bunch of pics. They did that before the IV stuff and again after. Took about 3 hours total. That is with wait time in-btwn each step. They even brought me a snack! LOL! :)

Cardiac stress test. It was required before my surgery, too. It can be done via the treadmill or injected drugs that stress the heart. I have bum knees, but I managed the treadmill. My test was probably no more than half an hour from the time I entered the room until I left. Only a few minutes on the treadmill, but be prepared to hustle. :)

They made me do the cardio in the chair becasue I had been in the hospital over a medication reaction and they were scared to put me on the treadmill. The medication kept the heart from speeding up on it's own too. I would amuch rather walked the treadmill!

they just did a ecg on me...even though i had had a heart attack some years before...i have had one since my WLS...nothing to do with weight...just that i have a bum ticker...weight doesnt always make a differece in heart health...but looking back i think its a good idea to have your ticker tested to the max before...

Yes everyone had it or better have it. I too was hooked up to IV and put on treadmill. They put some folks on IV because we can't do the actual physical activity. It's not pleasant but if u relax concentrate and bath u get through it. It's like your legs become so heavy in a matter of moments. You'll do fine.

I am scheduled to have it within the next week or so - I'm a little nervous but we will get through it - we have to. Praying your strength and mine. I've been using my elliptical so I think i will be okay on the treadmill - at least i hope so lol.

Thanks for all your replies. So do you have to run on the treadmill or walk? Or maybe briskly walk? I'm fine with walking but for some reason I cannot run on a treadmill. It makes me dizzy. If they let me run outside or in place then no problem. But I would fall off if I had to run on that machine. Lol

you dont run at all aloha...you walk the whole time...a the same speed pretty much...they chage the incline every few minutes to make it harder..and therefore increases your heart rate

Mine was on the treadmill, they said 10-30 minutes, mine was 17 minutes. It was much faster than a walk, but not a full on run, and it had a pretty good incline.
