HI...I had to post here for you because what you are going thru sounded exactly like what I went thru. My surgery was June 4, 2012 and the first 3 or 4 weeks the only thing I could stand was beef or chicken broth. I barely got in a bottle and a half of water, I had no hunger for anything and no energy at all. On June 18th I was hospitalized with dehydration and a viral infection. Please do what you can to get in liquids...even if you do have to force yourself to drink. Anything warm worked for me...broths, hot tea..even heated lemonade. The 8 days in the hospital were no picnic...
As time goes by you do want more to drink and eat and you don't have to force it...you just know it is time to feed the pouch...and you do.

Everything is great with me now...I am down 77 lbs, I walk 1.1 mile a day and I feed the little tiny tummy 3 times a day....almost always protein!

I am 2 months out and still have no appetite. I keep a schedule for food and fluids. It took me a good month to get my schedule down and get enough protein and water. Keep trying it gets better.

Try a snow cone machine with sf juice.

Make sure you drink water, vitaman water zero, propel, water and add crystal light or something that doesn't have calories. You do not want to end up in the hospital.

I also didn't and don't feel like eating anything.I don't want anything to happen so I at least make sure that I drink and get my protein shakes down. I had surgery on 9/25

Did you tell your surgeon about the muscle pull? If not I would. I was able to eat more my second week out than I can now (I'm 4 weeks out). Some days I still have trouble getting my water in but I get enough where I am not dehydrated. I am the same with you...some smell or even the thought of food makes me nausous. debby

The most important thing right now is to get in enough liquids. Hot, herbal tea helped calm my pouch...I drank it every morning before I did anything else. I also only tolerated room temperature water and I was really picky about what kind (Dasani was and is my water of choice).

It is very common to be sensitive to smells for the first few months. Also very common not to be hungry.

I thought I'd pulled something at the end of the first week post-op. It ended up being pain from my left incision...apparently, they do most of the work through that port and use many stitches through the muscles...they can pull through the muscle fibers and cause pain (this isn't considered a complication).

I have what you have. I am never hungry. I drink my 3 shakes a day, 2 0r 3 bottles of water and occassionally a snack or two. I loathe food.
Nothing tastes good to me at all. Nothing smells good. I taste it, I try to chew and if the consistancy isnt appealing to my tongue, i spit it out as instructed by my Nut. I am assured by the Dr this will pass. I maintain all vitamins and supplements and stay on the protein. after 3 months, my blood work came back perfect..Talk to your DR and nut asap...Best wishes!

I did talk & see my dr. Turns out it's not a pulled muscle but the pain for the left side incision and he assures me it will go away. How long - no one can tell. I'm doing okay w/ fluids - enough to stay hydrated but I can't get into eating 3 times a day. I hit the protein in the morning, carry a water bottle w/ me and add some unsweetened tea when I can. I may only get a bite or two in here or there of food but at least it's somewhat better.
I'm still exhausted. I think another week off of work would have helped. I felt okay to go back but I'm beat at the end of the day.

I understand about the liquids and food part, it should get better as you heal...if not you really should seek help...SOON! as for the exercise, it is too soon for you to be doing anything except walking...Oct 5th is barely 2 weeks ago, please check with your doc on that also...you can/will cause a hernia if your doing too much abdominal anything this soon...good luck!

hi by any chance do you get any nashes for not eating because i dont eat much and i get nashes all the time and end up throwing up...has that happen to you also...

You seem to be in the same positon as myself. Cant tolerate meats just stuffed shells, baked fish and veggies. Not ready for salads. The nut I have is promoting ricotta or cream of soups. I've lost 13 pds in the last week.

not much help my surgery was just the 17th and I have found that I have had to remind myself to drink. I have the alarm on my cell phone that goes off every three hours starting at 8 in the morning and ending at 8 at night to remind me to drink some protein shake, walk a bit and take vitamins/meds if needed at that time. The rest of the time I keep a little pitcher of ice water beside the bed (cause I found that I tolerate ice water better) with another cup and just sip every time I think about it. The fear of dehydration is what pushes me to at least get in the liquids I need in a day. I have been down the dehydration road before I ever had surgery and it wasn't fun then so I don't want to experience post surgery.

I'm with you on smell making you ill. What I could eat in the first 2 weeks I can no longer eat cause they make me feel sick to just look at it. I still don't get all my fluids in but I try real hard. So far I haven't gotten de hydrated thank God. But I know it is hard. Try some flavored water. That might help. Just keep sipping. debby

It gets better. As time goes by your tastes come back and the smells of food won't bother you as bad. For me it took 2-3 months after sleeve surgery. Nothing tasted good but I still don't have any hunger though. I eat cause I am told I have to eat three meals a day and 2 snacks. Early out it is a good thing to focus on liquids first so you don't get dehydrated. My programs makes us get 80 oz of liquids in a day. Then focus on protein and then your vitamins. You can always call your nut. if you are having issues and they can help you too!
