I am new here just joined tonight! I am going through the 3 month post op program, and I am 1 month in. When I first started this journey to a new life I thought I was going to get the sleeve. However, the more I learn the more I think the RNY is a better option which I was dead set against before I actually knew anything about anything. I don't see the surgeon until mid July, and although now I am leaning towards the RNY I have been thinking of letting the Dr tell me which is better to help me be healthy again. I've done tons of research and I don't have a large support network so I'm wondering if letting the Dr decide vs just letting him weigh in and making the decision myself. Anyone have any thoughts or pointers here. I am a diabetic, I've been at least a little heavy to morbid obese all my life. Currently I weigh 267 and would like to shed 100 lbs beacause I think that will be a healthy weight for me.
You should definitely get your surgeon's thoughts about which surgery would give you the best tool to become the healthiest version of yourself. However, unless there is a strong medical reason that eliminates one of the surgical options, I support the option of you making the final determination. With that said, based on your diabetes, your doctor will probably recommend RNY. ;)
