Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
It is a very important step in your pre surgery process, it is meant to shrink your liver to make surgery easier and safer.
Oh yeah Welcome to this message board! I have been coming here for a little over a year. Tomorrow (6/25) is my 9 month surgeversary. I am down 133 pounds with about 53 or so to go until I get to goal. Best decision I have every made for myself.
Someone mentioned adding some yogurt to them to change the flavor a bit, and give you even more protien. Also, I guess there is some SF jello brand pudding mix that is a berry cheesecake where you add a spoonful to your shake to give it a better flavor.
Just some suggestions, I haven't tried them myself yet.
Glad you're here! Welcome ;-)
I had wls rny gastric bypass two years ago and have lost 140 lbs to date and have gain a whole new lease on living life to it's fullest. Looking forward to getting to know you better. d
I don't have any advice on the liquid diet as my surgeon did not require that of me.... It is so weird, because almost everyone had to do some sort of liquid diet pre-op....
But I wanted to say hello and wish you the best on your journey... This is a great group.... Look forward to seeing you around...
I had to do a week of liquid diet. It wasnt so bad and it went by quickly. It didnt seem like it at first but it did. I did the protein shakes prior to surgery. I have a choco peanut butter shake. Now since it is summer, I have switched to Syntrax Nectar Iced Tea. I will be buying the Lemonade next. I figured this would be an easy way to try to get the protein in while not having milk sit in your stomach on hot mornings.
Every doctor is different and has their own way of doing things. As you can tell from the responses that some never had a liquid diet phase and some had as much as 4 weeks of liquid dieting prior to surgery.
Some people I heard were allowed SF pudding and yogurt so they mixed some powder pudding in their yogurt to give it a different flavor.
I dont know how long you have "stalked" the site but you will see some people drop a lot of pounds quickly and others struggle. Try not to compare yourself to others, as we all lose at different rates. I know I struggle to figure out how I am not losing more but I look on the positive side and think that I havent been this weight in about 15 years.
Good luck to you in your journey and remember there are no stupid questions, we have all been there.
You can get samples of 10 or 12 flavors directly from Syntrax, but which ever one you like, order it from some place else. You can get a better price and more than likely free shipping. I got mine from the Vitamin Shoppe. They had a special for free shipping and $10 off an order of $30 or more.
