Has anyone been treated (successfully) for neuropathy--specifically in your feet? When I mentioned my foot pain/numbness/heat/cold to my internist he suggested it was neuropathy--which, after researching, I tend to agree with him. My feet have bothered me for the past couple of years but I thought it was just because I was/am so fat. The past few weeks, after taking my 3-4 mile walk, I have been in such pain that I spend the rest of the day limping around. I have stopped the walks (which devastates me) and have a call into my doctor. I am thinking that I need to see a neurologist- but I will discuss that with my internist. Does anyone currently on DS have any experience with this issue and, if so, how are you feeling now? I did a board search and found some messages about this but nothing recently. FYI--I am a post op (7/1/10) and have lost about 73 lbs but the pain has been increasing probably because I am walking more. I am also type II diabetic and I know that there is a causal link between diabetes and neuropathy but my foot issues, though not as severe as now, predate my diabetes diagnosis. Any info from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

I suffer from severe neuropathy on a daily basis, in my feet and legs...It was caused by a stroke, but stangely the more weight I lose, the worse it has gotten, and my neuro people don't have answers for it. It is just something I have to deal with..Some days I walk, and some days I don't...I just take it as it comes and be grateful for what I have...in comparison to being paralyzed like I was for so many months...I'll take it..

Hi Loumom, I had been taking gabepentin for years for my neuropathy. My surgery was July 6th, RNY. I have not taken any medications since surgery. My neuropathy has gone in remission. Now, I don't know how long this will last. Per-surgery, my feet tingle and hurt so bad I would have to pull off on the side of the road if I was driving. It would wake me up in the wee morning hours. It's a horrible pain. Gabepentin helped a lot. I hope you can get this under control, because I know it hurts and it will stop you from exercising. Good luck.

Hi. One thing I have noticed is my circulation seems to become "locked up". Accupressure helps me a bunch. One thing you may wanna try is to take a rolling pin or any long circular object as such, and roll it along your legs and feet... I hope it may help with taking the edge off.

This is interesting. I am 7 years post Bupass op and have been experiencing numbness and pins and needles in my hand and feet. It comes and goes and is really bad at times. I didn’t know what his could be caused by and my doctor seemed uninterested when I mentioned it. Is this a common issue for bypass patients? Never had this before.

No, itsbeen7years, Neuropathy is unrelated to gastric bypass and more related to diabetes. Tingling and numbness in hands is most often related to carpal tunnel. You might want to see a neurologist.

Hello, i also suffer from tingling in my finger tips and my lips. I have noticed when im low on B12 it seems to be worse. When i take my B12 shot it seems to get a little better.Try getting ur vitiam levels ck :)

Worse all the time, seems odd that this is happing to people who have weight loss surgery.. I’m also having issues eating anything anymore makes me nauseous and can’t eat
