How far out are you? Have you had the problem before??

I started having back pain about a month or so after my GBS. My surgeon explained the shifting weight changed how I carried myself and could put my muscles in spasm. I had a couple massages and it helped a lot!

I am five and a half months out and down a little over 100 pounds. This just started Sunday and hasn't stopped its like one spasm right after another.

I had what I thought to be back pain, between my spine and right shoulder blade. All the biofreeze and heat didn't help as it ended up being gallstones from my gallbladder. Not sure this is the case for you, but don't be afraid to go to the ER if the pain gets bad enough. I didn't find out until my own ER trip. If it's straight back pain, I can say all the shifting of the spine with the lighter body can cause issues. I'm about 18 months out and I starting getting a monthly massages almost 9 months ago. It's really helped my back out.

I have had a constant pain in my upper back between my right shoulder blade and running under my right breast.... Exercise does help some.... I stretch it constantly.... I do sit on a heating pad whenever possible... I know its a muscle because I can feel the spasms.... I tried biofreeze and that did not help either.... I wish I had more advice.... But stretching... It hurts at times, but the only thing that helps.....

While I was on my pre-surgery liquid diet I started getting very painful muscle spasms, which would vary in location. Come to find out my magnesium was very low. You might want to check that.

I have a torn and herniated disk in my back. (tripped over my dog)

my spine doc told me never use heat. don't know if that's just my type injury or in general on the back.

I also had to do extension exercises they have them on the net.

as was said before if its to bad go to the er especially with the back its to easy to ignore something very major.

Once they've ruled out the vitamin deficiencies/gallstones etc.... go see a chiropractor. As your body is adjusting and shifting, this is the easiest and most pain free way to keep your body adapting. I would be lost without my chiropractor!

If you do use heat, make sure its moist heat (hot water bottle in a damp towel or a rice bag are good options). Dry heat (like a heating pad) will make your spasms worse. Good luck!

Funny you should mention this topic cuz it was the topic today at work! I've been having the mid-upper back 'ache' also....feels muscular, like I just can't get comfy. A girl at work had the same symptoms and ended up having her gall bladder removed. Like her, my EGD and gallbladder U/S were normal at preop testing, but when she was tested again with the postop back pain, it showed her gallbladder wasn't functioning at 100% so it was removed and she felt much better. Anyone else have these issues??? Now I'm worried....last thing I want is to go through surgery again! sigh.....

I would really keep an eye on this issue. I had the same sort of pain that i largely ignored as a back pain due to increased activity. It turned out that I had pancreantitis and an internal hernia among other serious complications.

Sometimes when things go wrong in your gut they present as shoulder pains. I tried all the same otc treatments until it got so bad i had to call an ambulance for a ride to the e.r....

I don't mean to scare you. but you should be aware.

I developed upper back pain about two months post op, nothing seemed to help. I went to a chiropractor and that helped some. He told me that my rapid weight loss had shifted my center of gravity and I was walking differently causing the pain. I was told by a trainer to make sure I keep my posture in check and to work on my core strength, which does seem to be helping. I'd check with a doctor before you do anything else.

Don't use ice it tenses up your muscles and will make it worse. If you feeling that bad call your Drs office and tell them you can not wait until Tuesday. Talk to the nurse not just the receptionist
