I haven't done much in the way of adding topics lately, mainly because I've been in kind of a funk since before Christmas - depressed, stressed, and in an overall bad mood. Christmas always stresses me out because I am forced to spend money I really shouldn't be spending to buy those close to me presents. Once I got the shopping out of the way though, I felt a little better.. I seriously just wanted the holidays to all be over. In the end I did have a decent Christmas and was glad when it was done.
I got offered the full time job position in the other department and have been doing crash course training to learn the job, all the while still having to do all the duties of my old position (still my current position until they get a new person in next week.) (For those who don't know my story, I found out a few weeks ago that my current position is going part time, but there was a full time position open in another department.) It's been extremely stressful and I've been losing sleep at night worrying about whether or not I can do it. I know it'll get better once I'm used to doing it and learn more, but in this position, if I screw up the company loses a LOT of money, and that's a tough burden to bear.
On my 2nd day doing my hands-on training, the girl who was supposed to be helping me while my trainer was on vacation decided to call in sick, leaving me out there hanging in the wind to fend for myself. It was very scary for me, and very stressful, but I made my way through it and I think I managed to not make any mistakes doing it.
I've been drinking too much these last couple of weeks, and I know I need to find another way to deal with the stress, so I've been taking it out on the equipment at the gym. I resolved for the new year I was going to stop drinking during the week, step up my gym routine and get to my goal weight. I'm putting it out there so I have some accountability. As I learn more about my job I'm feeling a little less stressed (a teeny bit anyway), and exercise is a GREAT stress reliever. Not to mention while I'm on my bike I get to read, and that helps me to leave the real world for a while and lose myself in a fantasy world.
I recently heard of a supplement called SAM-e, that is supposed to increase seratonin levels in your body or something like that, putting you in a better mood. Natural prozac they call it. Anyone heard of it or taking it? I'd like to know if it's worth getting. I ordered a bottle anyway LOL But would like to hear from someone with some experience with it.

As far as over-the-counter vs. prescription anti-depressants, I don't really see the difference. The point is that depression is a physical illness caused by an upset or imbalance in the brain chemistry. Don't be hesitant to get a prescription if you need it. Depression isn't something you can "think" your way out of.
IMHO the term "mental illness" should be banned because it gives some the idea that just "thinking" can make it better. They are illnesses with physical causes and should be treated as such. IMO.
