Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
maybe if you have a friend oor a pastor or someone to help process this grief...and of course write and journalize on here to release the grief.. God Bless you and your mom...you will both be in my prayers
Now having said that, you pretty much know what you have to do, you spoke of your mom being trapped in her on body and not being able to loose the weight plus your own fears of becoming like your mom, what better way to honor her memory then to stay on target with your weight loss. Make a commitment today to do what she wasn't able to do and focus on and conquer this battle with obesity. But just don't do it for your mom, do it for you!!! Let me share my reason for doing this - my mom is 72 years old and she's always been a heavy woman although never as heavy as I currently find myself. She was absolutelly stunning and in my eyes regal beautyin my eyes, but the years were not kind to her health wise and at 72 she is completely bent over and dependant on a walker to get around. She could have done a few things to prevent herself from getting so bad but she didn't and now it is too late to improve her quality of life - my biggest concern is that she's prone to falling if she does not use the walker. It saddens me because although we are just regaining the closness we once shared - my heart breaks every time i see how fragile she has become.
I hadn't seen my mom in years because of reasons i won't rehash right but after my stepfather passed and I realized how her body has deteriorated, I vowed to do something to regain my quality of life. I love my mother with everything that I am, always have, always will, but I do not want to be her in another 20 years which is the difference in our ages. I vowed that no matter what it took i would not repeat the cycle of ignoring health issues such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. I would not let myself get trapped in a world of prescription pain pills, to the point of dependency. In short fire alarms went off in my head and I knew it was time for a change. I ran, not walked right into a weight loss seminar and I've been on a mission to regain my quality of life. My stepfather died on July 22, I started my weight loss journey on August 8, 2012,
Said in love to you and In loving memory of your mom. You said it best "she was always sad and trapped in her own body" So every time you come close to wanting to use food to help you deal with your grief those same fire alarms that went off in my head should go off in yours.
Part of your weight loss success (all of us really) is realizing that there are some things that are going to happen in life that you have to allow yourself to go through without using a crutch. If we are to be successful in this weight loss journey, we have to allow ourselves to feel pain just like we feel fabric against our skin when we put clothes on. Pain, disappointment, failure, grief, laughter, love, are all components of life and living it. We've already buried ourselves in food to avoid all of these emotions, especially pain you can't go back to that. That is a trick of the enemy and you already know that.
Unfortunately the loss of your mom is going to be your biggest challenge to your weight loss challenge. Do you succeed and keep going or do you take the risk by stuffing "twinkies" in your mouth? And how in the end does that change your circumstances?
My suggestion is that you allow yourself to go through the 5 stages of grief, one step at a time. http://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/
I've posted the link so you can identify what they are and deal with them head on. Learn to lean on God for solace and NOT food. You will only cause harm to yourself in the end if you give in to old habits.
If you can't embrace anything I've said above, embrace this. This is your opportunity to break the cycle for yourself and your family. Take what you wanted for your mom "Good Health" and apply it to yourself. You, deserve the same health and happiness you wanted for her. I pray you strength and peace over the next few minutes, days, weeks and months and remember we are here for you. This site is awesome and comes with an array of support groups. I am sure their is a support group for grief counseling, find it fast and talk to people who are going through just like you - you are not alone, we are here to encourage you as well, much love.
Make your Mom proud by not turning to food for comfort.
She wants you to have a better quality life!!
Do it and live it for yourself and her
Blessings to you and my prayer is that God will lead you to comfort that has nothing to do with these bodies we live in and struggle with...
((hugs))
