My lithium capsules are to big to swallow, so I have to open them up, but they cause a great deal of burning and immediate nausea. I can't take them. The same goes for my metformin, which the second night I tried to cut up into little pieces instead and ended up in so much pain an pressure for so long it was horrible. So I can't take either of them. I have been wanting to stop both, really, so I am going to check my blood sugar this am and as I go along, and call my PCP. I called the on-call surgeon, who didn't know my case, and he said just to hold off on them for a while and said to talk with my PCP before stopping the lithium. I just absolutely can not get these down. OMG it was horrible. My stomach is still sore this morning from taking the pieces of metformin last night. I almost wish they would have come back up. Anything would have been better than the pain. I just hope I didn't damage my new little pouch. Crap, crap, crap.
I don't know anything about metformin except my friend took it for her sugar and came home from hospital off it.
I'm so sorry you are having such a time. talk in depth with your doctors they are smart cookies and some very creative lol
I would for sure talk to your doctor who prescribes the lithium about what THAT doctor recommends. There are so many emotional issues your body goes through after surgery naturally that are so hard to cope with. Switching meds that you were on before may not be the best time to try stopping the med. You unfortunately may be setting yourself up for a situation that would not be positive by switching meds unless your doctor thinks it is an ok idea.
Honestly this surgery in the first few weeks was so much more mentally and emotionally difficult than I anticipated myself. I know I was well aware of the physical effects of surgery, but I felt really uninformed about how much mental and emotional work recovering from surgery would take. I would hate for it to be even harder for you because of a medication switch now.
