Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I too had the same questions. I talked to my nut and he had me go to the following website. It is very very informative. It's got a ton of information - very factual and updated. In fact it's because of this site that my nut upped my calcium intake.
i am sure it will satisfy your "collegiate" need to get all the facts.

I do drive myself crazy sometimes with this endless 'need to know'! LOL!
Becca, my guess is that malabsorption is one of those "your mileage may vary" type things.
It is interesting...until recently, I hadn't really realized the malabsorption doesn't just affect vitamins. It also happens with calories.
I believe most of the information we have on post surgical vitamin malabsorption has been developed combining our current understanding of where different nutrients are actually absorbed along our digestive tract with the information gleaned from post-operatove blood work from previous post-op patients.
Have you tried researching "malabsorption after bowel resection" or something like that?
I'll see if my surgeon's office has any good research on the issue.
