Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
RNY on Dec. 10, 2012 Weight was 240. BMI 41.5. Height 5'4".
Lost 42 lbs to date, more than 1/3 of my excess weight. I'd like to get to 145 lbs, I look good at that weight even though it's above the "recommended" for my height.
Ihave never had a problem, no nausea etc. I am following my program and don't feel I've been deprived. I stay away from Wheat Thins though-- they could be a downfall. Kathy

I unfortunately had major complication from my surgery. I had a leak at the suture line on my remnent stomach which caused me to have respiratory failure, had to be put on a vent for two weeks, and spent about a month in the hospital. I came very close to dying.
I went through so much as did my family that it makes me that much more determined to make my weight loss successful. Even with all that I went through I am still glad I did it. I feel better than I have in 20+ years.

Notes: if the surgeon would have told me to drink mud to make this surgery effective, I would have said yes sir. How often do I drink it and how thick do I make it. I had no complications. I have no regrets. Slow losing is still losing! It took one year to the day for me to lose 87 pounds.
Congrats to all those who are fighting the good fight! Like JJ says, it's so worth it!
Blessings all around!

I don't feel hungry or deprived. Most the time I don't really want what I can eat. I'd do it over again. I have no regrets. I could sell this door to door!

My starting weight was 436. I am 5'10". I started my Pre-op Liquid diet 12/2/12. I had Gastric Sleeve on 12/18/12. To date I have lost 84 lbs. My goal is to lose my first 100 by 5/5/13 and 200 by 12/2/13.
I have not regretted the decision for 1 minute.
It's brought me to tears and sometimes takes my breath away! The surgeon is 95% sure its not a hernia and says this is normal. I felt better my first week home and didn't have the pain this bad...I don't get it!
I had RNY on 1/8/13. To date I have lost 53 pounds. I'm 5'10 and my goal is to get to 175 so I have about 105 pounds to go. Hoping to be at 100 pounds lost by my 6 month mark and the full amount by the one-year anniversary.
I've had few problems thankfully. I'm finally beginning to understand what people mean when they say this is only a tool. I make choices every single day, every single meal, that can make or break me.
