I'm 4 weeks out and mostly pain free but when I have pain it's always on the left hand side where all the major work was done. I found lying down on that side helped me and not twisting and bending too much....rest rest rest ;o) hugs from England xx

Totaly normal, i had it too..

I have an exercise belt and it just happens to hold everything in. (See Photos) I have a recurrence of the pain after it subsided. Haven't figured out why...

thanks for posting this, i have this pain too, i have had it since i got home, like someone grabbed my insides and was squeezing them.... ugh. i have to say that i broke down and took the pain meds... i am only 4 days out... hoping it gets better for u and me both!

Do you still have your drain in? My left side hurt so bad I couldn't breathe. I actually thought it was something with my kidney and I really freaked....doctor said it was my drain leaning against my diaphragm and once he took it out there was relief and maybe 4-5 days later the pain was gone. Hang in there...use the meds if you need them...I tried to avoid them thinking I might "overuse" but it turned out the doctor told me I barely used half of the prescription when I thought I was over doing. The first few weeks or more are really tough. Feel better soon.

I was so worried about this.
It went on for six weeks!
I asked questions on this board but still did not feel right about the PAIN.
For me after 6 weeks it went away and I have been fine ever since.
My best information is that not only is this area the site where the most work was done but additionally there may be trapped gas which is extremely painful.
If you find you need to see your doctor please do so but remember a certain amount of pain is normal

I am 4 days out and everythng on the left side of my body hurtsmy arm my side even my leg YUCK!!!!

He man thats where every thing took place. It's gonna hurt, 9 days out and my left side is sill sore but getting stronger every day. Have patience my young one!

I had very bad left side pain as well, and my doctor told me it's very normal because most of the work is done on the left side. It will pass soon.

There are many layers of muscle and tissue that get disturbed during surgery and it all takes time to heal. One of the best peices of advice I ever got was from a nurse who encouraged me to "get ahead of the pain" with my meds. If I waited until I hurt really bad, the meds only took the edge off, but didn't keep me comfortable. If I took a smaller dose in more frequent intervals, I was much more comfortable. ( I was on liquid codeine so I could adjust the dosage - a little harder if you're taking pills.) Hang in there - it doesn't last forever!
