Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well!
I had my three month blood work done this week and got my results today. My SGOT (AST) is 113 and my SGPT (ALT) is 200. Both of these should be no more then 40. I'm kinda freaking out...according to the Internet ...lol...I know ...it's your live function and indicates major problems. So I spoke with one of the Bariatric doctors at the clinic and she said that sometimes this happens in the beginning? Has anyone else had this or something similar? Or heard of it? She wants me to wait two weeks to do some more blood work to check again! 2 weeks!! I'm going to be batty by then!

Are you currently taking the allergy medicine Zyrtec? THey say that this medicine can affect those levels.

Also, are drinking alcohol? That too, can increase those levels.

You also may have too much iron in our system. I'd call the Dr, and ask them what this could mean. I found the information on the web, but the Dr will tell you what this can mean..

my liver profile keeps returning off...one month it was bad two weeks later it was fine the last one was off again. Also different labs have different ranges of normal and not normal. My body is a mess though so they are hitting one issue at a time.

Oh I was also told by my surgeon this week to stay away from the internet ......I was reading on the surgery and telling them how the net says the procedures should be........

I had similar levels at my 2 week and 6 week follow up labs...the recheck 2 level now have been trending down. I asked why they were so elevated and my MD told me it was the stress on my liver having the extra fat pulled out of it. They reassured me it will level out in time and go back down.

Although the doc did not seem to think it would matter I am avoiding taking any meds that may irritate it further...namely Tylenol for me. Luckily as the weight is coming off my aches and pains have decreased anyway so I have not needed much.

I never had any problems like that with my labs but you might want to involve your regular dr who should be the one that will order regular tests for you. My regular dr orders a full range of blood tests every three months. Please stay on top of things!

Thanks everyone for your input. They have ordered some follow up blood work in two weeks and have told me that this happens because of toxins in our bodies being released as we shed fat. Hope it all turns out fine! :)
