Knee Gave out again

I was back at doctors today, as my knee gave out on me. I have previously had surgery on it and it was in rough shape. Later had suparz injections to help with debilitating pain...they have told me right along that I will need a knee replacement. So now, here I sit 75lbs. lighter and I had hoped and prayed I would be able to return to running one day and my x-ray today showed the arthritis is quite advanced and the knee is full of fluid. I am so upset, has anyone come back from serious knee problems to be able to run again ? They told me if I have the knee replacement I will not be able to run and I love running. I do other things, cross train on my elyptical, dance, bike, walk, but love running.

I too have a bad knee but they don't want to operate til I lose some weight. That is why I am here. I have two bad hips as well. As for running ... I am just praying I will be able to walk without pain. Good Luck on your knee!

I have had 3 back surgeries, I have bad hips and bad knees. I also was hoping to be able to run again. The pain is much better since I'v lost 90 lbs., but the Dr. says running will never be in my future. I am finding other things I really enjoy doing. Good luck . Patti

Bum knee here too. It is definitely a challenge to rise up to our limitations and release old expectations so we can do things differently. That said, Never let a dr tell you what you cant do!

Two bum knees here, and definitely no running in my future. But I believe hiking again is definitely doable. Perhaps you need to find a new outdoor passion, one that arthritic knees can tolerate? I'm sorry to say it, but arthritis doesn't get better, and running would likely cause further damage to already weakened joints. Just saying....

So sorry. I injured my foot in a softball game. That was the end of running for me, and the beginning of my weight gain.
I know how much I miss it still after nearly 30 years, but I do enjoy bikes, walks and hikes.
I hope they can give you some help to get moving fast again.

Thank you all for your comments and perspective...I have had mutiple physical therapies and that has not helped. The suparz injections were fantastic for a while. The surgery did nothing. I must say, that after reading your post's I realize that I need to focus on what I can do, and not what I can't and never say never...Thanks everyone !!! You are all so GREAT !!
