Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I had so much trouble with my vitamins the first few days too. I found that the multi-vitamin I was taking was just too big and so I switched to Flintstones Complete. I take two a day, but I can take them at different times and they are much smaller. I asked the nutritionist and she said that was fine. My surgeon said everything is a gradual thing and they want me to get to 64 oz of fluids and 60-80 grams of protein, but not to think I had to do that in the first few weeks. I am almost to those goals at week 4.
I agree with you on the commercials, they make it hard not to wonder why I did this, but the 15 lbs I have already lost makes it all ok.
Again, give yourself some time.
The emotions will run a bit wild for a while, partly due to the surgery, the drugs and shock to the system, and partly due to the hormones stored in our fat cells. When that starts dropping, you'll be getting double doses. Give yourself some care and you'll get through it fine.
When the swelling goes down, you will find it easier to take your meds too. Take care and keep us up on how it's going.
Feeling depressed after surgery is pretty normal but it should blow over soon. If not, call your doc and ask for help. Your tears will soon be tears of joy when you walk past your reflection in a store window and don't recognize the person you see!
Wishing you all the best!
