I had knee pain so bad! It was at the worst late at night, on cold evenings, after I had done a lot of house work. I would have to take a HOT bath & some Tylenol to relax the muscles so I could sleep and sometimes the pain would even wake me up from sleeping.. I've lost 29 lbs so far and I am 4 weeks from surgery today and... NO MORE KNEE PAIN.

I just realized that this week. I haven't had to take a single bath at night due to pain since the week after surgery. Last winter I would have easily needed 3-5 baths a week just to be able to sleep.

You whole body is going to be so relieved not to be carrying itself around 24/7! You are going to love how wonderful you will feel!

Try also vitamin D.

what does vit D do? ok i know it is for fatigue

I have osteoarthritis , fibro, and foot problems. A long with back problems, some arthritis in back and pelvis and knees, ankles, feet. I have noticed that , yes, with the arthritis. my knees don't crack as much, my feet do feel better. and my lower back has some of that extra weight off and feels better too!!! I am doing a machine at the gym that helps strengthen back muscles too. I want to get it all feeling better long term, and to strengthen the abdominal s also will help with the back pain.

Susan you sound just like me! I'm in my bathtub every night. The cold is terriable for me and my body aches worse at night. I do have fibromyalgia but I'm really hoping after I lose this weight my pain will be gone. I do take vitamin d everyday. I never heard that it helps pain.

The vitamin D helped me. My doctor also sent me to physical therapy for a few sessions to help me increase my back strength and do some stretches. It made a huge difference!! I'm now post surgery and thinking I may need to go back for a few more sessions.

I sent to Vegas in April and couldn't walk up a flight of stairs because my knee was so sore--What a wake up call for me. Had surgery in August and am doing so much better. I have heard that very every pound lost there is 4 lbs of pressure taken off the knees. You are going to feel so much better soon! Good luck!!!

Well, honestly - 70 pounds later, my knee still hurts. Darn It! But if I do have to have a knee replacement, I am sure my recovery will be much easier.

I agree about getting PT - esp. if ins pays for it. If they won't do it under your surgeon's referral, then go see an orthopedic doc and they will probably authorize PT for your knee.

I am glad that you brought this up. I am in pain all the time and I know it from the weight. every thing hurts back knee. I am hoping that after the surgery I will be able to walk up the stairs without getting out of breath! and my knee feeling like they are going to break in half! Just like you I hope after I have my surgery the pain will go along with the weight!

The year before my surgery, my PCP signed the forms for me to obtain a handicapped parking permit. (I never followed through on that because I felt like it was admitting defeat!) This was because I had so much pain in my hips and knees that I had difficulty getting around. I had GBS in November 2010, and I've lost 89 lb. since then. My knees are much better. My hips are much better (ongoing PT to manage that issue). Certainly, taking off all that weight contributed to the improvement. Just try picking up a 25 lb. bag of pet food, and imaging hauling around more than three of them! Yikes.
