So I started doing Couch to 5k several months ago but had to stop due to knee issues, even though running felt really good to me. I've really missed it and have been jonesing to do it more, but my knee hurting has deterred me.
Today I went to Sears and bought a pair of Asics running shoes, I needed some good support shoes that can keep me from overpronating (my feet tilting inward when walking/running) and twisting my knee to make it hurt.
I was very excited about getting to the gym (for a change, lol) and I got there, warmed up on the treadmill for 5 mins, then ran for 5 mins straight for the first time ever. What an accomplishment! I've NEVER run for 5 mins straight. I wanted to keep going, but after 2-3 months off from running, my lungs were saying NO WAY!
JJ, reading your post yesterday and seeing your photo really inspired me to get back into it. It's not easy, and my knee still hurts a little, but not as much with the new shoes. I'm picking up my Couch to 5k where I left off. I feel so strong when I'm running, because I could never do it before, and it still amazes me when I'm doing it.
Thank you for making me realize how much I really want to do this. I know I inspired a few when I started Couch to 5k, but then felt bad when I had to drop out of it. I'm committed to finishing it now, as long as my knees cooperate. I may have to adjust my time frame, but I WILL do this!

You are the goddess who inspired me to do it. We all setbacks but I so love your attitude and spirit and just picking up again. I too have knee problems and one of the things that helps me while Im running is using a brace. Shoes do make a world of difference but make sure you have that support as well to the knee.

I've never a smoked a day in my life and when I started jogging you would think I'd smoke 2 packs a day- -had that lovely cough that gets you to clear out your lungs. That's when you know this is working...lol
