I have 6 incisions. 4 were about half in long and 2 were about 1.5 inches. I found it most comfortable to sleep slightly propped up with pillows, but I was in a bed. If you get an elastic binder after surgery, wear it to bed. It really helps keep you comfortable.

I had no problem sleeping in a bed flat. I'm glad too because I don't sleep well upright. Good luck. It was much easier than I thought it would be.. You'll do great! I had 5, 2 were just small holes, the others only less than an inch.

although everybody's different... I had two surgeries this summer, first a hysterectomy (for cancer), done robotically (amazing!) and then the WLS- I have about five little holes... two had staples, so they look funny (almost cute)... one right above my belly button, two on each side of my belly, and two below the boobs... for me, it was very easy to sleep in my "normal" position on my side, with just a little discomfort... I could take Tylenol, so I took a Tylenol PM for just the first few nights after I came home from the hospital...

the other advice that I would give you, is to care for your incisions- wash each day with warm water and mild soap, then rub a little nice, mild lotion on them... this will help in the healing. if you think they are getting a little "yellow", you can put a little neosporin and a band aid for a couple of days- but it's best to try and leave them open if you can!

I did sleep in my recliner the first three nights home but then I slept in bed. It took about a week and a half before I could sort of sleep on my side. Another week later and I was sleeping comfortably on both sides.

Insist on a tummy binder after surgery. It helped me A LOT! Especially during all the walking you have to do after surgery.

I have 6 incisions. Two of them are about an inch, 3 of them are about 1/2 inch and one is only about 1/4 inch.

I slept in bed the whole time. Never used a recliner. I can't sleep sitting up. Incisions weren't over an inch. No binder needed. No drain tubes. Good for you for educating yourself!

I slept in my bed right away, minus my dogs who would probably jump on my stomach. 5 incisions (4 very small, 1 about 1/2 inch long).

I only slept in a recliner for one night. It was because I was sore and it was hard to lie down. I slept in bed the next night, propped with a lot of pillows. After a couple of days of that, I'm back to regular sleeping in my bed. My incisions are about an inch and a couple are smaller than that so, I have 6 of them. Healing nicely and doing well. So will you. You will do GREAT!! We are all pulling for you to get through it well!

I had six small (1/2 inch to 1 inch) incisions. My surgeon didn't tell me to avoid my bed, but I didn't want to strain my abdominal muscles when getting up or down, so I chose the recliner for about the first five days at home. By that time, I had healed enough and was off my pain meds, so I went back to bed. Just listen to your body and you'll be fine.
